"What the hell did you trade Jay Buhner for? He had 30 home runs, over 100 RBIs last year, he's got a rocket for an arm, you don't know what the hell you're doing!"

We traded Elvis Andrus, Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison and Jarrod Saltalamacchia to the Rangers for Mark Teixeira. Tex played great as a Brave, but landing him didn't result in a playoff appearance, and he was traded at the next deadline for Casey Kotchman.

Also, we traded Charlie Morton, Gorkys Hernandez and Jeff Locke to the Pirates for Nate McLouth, who sucked as a Brave.

But we're more known for bad signings(Derek Lowe, BJ Upton, Dan Uggla extension, Mike Hampton)

agreed, but that wasn't a deadline trade.

I mean technically it was. The play was up against a deadline and was about to go under if the Red Sox didn’t make the deal.

The last two I don't agree with. I mean yes the player traded away went on to have a great career but both trades helped the team trying to make the postseason. I don't know what Andersen did off hand, but Doyle went 9-0 with a sub 2 era and an almost 300 era+ for the Tigers after the trade that year.

I feel like we can already put Fernando Tatis Jr for James Shields on this list.

Every time I watch that kid, it hurts.

I'm not sure the goal was to lose in the ALCS though while Doyle had a great year to finish out, the next two years sub 4 era and he had the most losses in the majors two years later.

ATL acquired Smoltz who was just a minor league guy but he played 20 years for the Braves. Doyle played 2 years and then retired. Getting the right prospects in these deadline trades can help change a franchise.

JD Drew was a beast in his one season as a Brave, but he wasn't worth Adam Wainwright

You can only look at a trade from that time ... great for both teams. Smoltz may have not been a Hall of Famer with the Tigers. Also, anything can happen in a 5 or 7 game series. No regrets and I have always been a Smoltz fan!!!
