I thought I would start a thread for the greatest tournament in all of tennis. At some point, i'll offer my predictions and a decent analysis, but the tourney doesn't start for another two weeks. For now, we have to settle for the tuneups at Queens's Club (where Murray was just shocked by Mahut in the first) and Halle.

Wimbledon just isn't the same as it once was. At one time players had to serve & volley. It was different from all the other surfaces. Now it's no different from the other three Grand Slams. They just stand beyond the baseline & hit the ball back & forth. We will never see another Borg vs McEnroe or Edberg vs Becker match. They just stay back, hit the ball & GRUNT.

I'll be honest I think all of Maria Sharapova's opponents should walk over to the umpire after the first game & say I can't concentrate when everytime she hits the ball she SCREAMS. I felt the same way about Monika Seles.

Tennis needs to outlaw grunting.

UPSET ALERT....

Nadal is down 2 sets to 1 to world #100 Lukas Rosol. Rosol had two set points in the first (the only set he lost).

Rosol just won. This is probably the biggest upset in tennis history.

HUGE upset. Pretty much lets Fed walk to the Finals.

Novak is on Fed's side. Murray, Tsonga, Ferrer, and Roddick are all on Nadal's side. It pretty much sets up Djokovic-Fed as a de facto final in the semi round, unless Tsonga wins since he can beat both of them.

Yeah I just saw that. Thats a bummer. Jo Willie is the only guy capable of beating either Novak or Fed and hes a fruit loop thatll probably blow up and lose before the semis. Looks like a boring Andy Murray blowout loss in the Finals. At least the toothless Brits will be happy until he loses 1,1 and 1 in the finals. LOL

Fed up 2 sets to 1 on Djokovic. Rooting for Roger to win, Novak is boring as hell IMO.

I wouldn't say boring as hell, but Roger is definitely more exciting. This has been a great match so far. I think whoever gets the first break in the fourth wins the match. Fed looks confident, but it won't take much for the doubts to creep in.

Federer has arguably the most effective serve in tennis history. Novak has arguably the greatest return in tennis history. At the French, Nole's return won out. Today, he can't seem to get Fed's serves back.

Feds best weapon is his second serve IMO, I read something the other day that said he wins like 77% of his second serve points. Thats freaking unreal.

Today he is around 74% with no double faults. I agree that his second serve is his best shot, and one of the best shots ever.

Fed up 5-2 in the fourth, 2 sets to 1 for those not watching.

The GOAT marches on. One month shy of his 31st birthday, he just beat a dominant world #1 in his prime. If he can beat the winner of Murray/Tsonga, he will earn not only his 17th major but he will regain the #1 ranking. That would move him past Sampras for most weeks at #1, and would arguably be among the greatest accomplishments in the history of sports.

Great match, and I am SO relieved Roger won. As a fan of teams who never seem to win, it's been great to cheer him on all these years. Whenever he plays his best, even at age 30, he is pretty much guaranteed to win. Today, he did that. It's been a long climb, but the GOAT is back at #1.
