We shot a few pheasants last Saturday but it's been too hot to hunt anything but the first couple of hours of the day.

Countdown begins until Saturday. Very excited about the upcoming season. Fifty six years young and still I cannot wait for opening morning.

If I make it to my birthday on Friday, I'll join you at the 56 mark and yup, I'm always young in the field. Bird hunted with a couple of teenagers today. Only got one point and the young fellow missed so he was of course getting mildly ribbed by his buddy.

So Deer season's 6 weeks out and I finally drew a doe tag. I don't have any prime area to hunt but my back property abuts a several hundred acre swamp and there's a natural funnel though I've only shot one deer back there...not that I ever hunted it with diligence. Well this year I put up one of our two man ladder stands just for kicks 'cause it's so easy to just slip out back for an hour in the morning and an hour at night.

I won't get excited until I start to see some 7 a.m. pics but this little fellow stopped by a deer block I threw out 30yds from the stand last Friday just to help me daydream a little.

Need to move south. So many deer there is practically no bag limit. And open season on wild hog year around.

Yep, we just got our first limit on bucks this year. We can only take 8 now, but you can still get 8 doe tags as well. We've had the 8 doe limit for as long as I can remember though.

Season runs from Aug 15th - Jan. 1st.

....had a couple of does feeding under my stand yesterday afternoon. Opener's a long way off but it's never a bad sign to see hooves on the ground.

Put the smack down on a couple roosters yesterday. Would have took a pic but they both landed in the water on the way down and looked all ratty after the retrieve. Oh well, that's what ya get when you hunt the cattails for em.

On a side note, Black Cloud has a 50$ a case rebate right now. Got a case of #4's for my 20 guage for 109$
