It very well may be...but the PAC ain't in too good a shape either.

The Big 12 adding teams that don't bring a good draw to the table won't help the "precarious shape" of the league whatsoever.
pac 12 isnt in that bad of shape perception isn't fact. a down cycle doesn't mean doom.

17 finished ugly but just go back over the last few years and the Pac has been just fine.
16 had 4 double digit win teams. 5 ranked top 25 and a playoff team
15 had 10 bowl teams 6-4 record.
14 had 6 ranked teams. playoff team. National Runner up. 6-3 bowl record. 2 NY6 bowls.

I don't see it as doom either. Even though they may have been down a little in football this year, the PAC 12 football season was a hell of a lot better than the balance sheet wasn't it? What did the conference pay out to every school last year?

Every team made more than they ever had before, but they made quite a bit less than what was projected from the numbers given to them by the commissioners office when the TV deal was originally signed. And quite a few projects/budgets were formed with something closer to those projected numbers which is killing a few programs bottom line big time.

Pac12 is lagging behind the other 4 which is something that just shouldn't happen and any half way competent commissioner wouldn't allow.

Both football and basketball had issues with their last seasons both on and off the court/field. Still just a cycle thing though. They won't stay down for long.

The issues with revenue won't get resolved as long as Scott is the commissioner. That fucking tool STILL hasn't solved the issue with the network and DirecTV ffs. It's a total embarrassment.

There may be a lot of things the Big 12 might want; but being the most precarious of the Power-5 conferences will leave them on the outside looking in. The state of Texas is a great market for college football, but that's about it, as far as the B-12's current footprint. Oklahoma (the U.) draws interest on a national scale, and West Virginia on an accelerated regional scale, but that's about it.

Nobody is going to be drawn away from higher visibility & higher paying conferences like the SEC, Big 10 & ACC to join the Big 12. It's just not happening.

If the Big 12 wants to grow, it's going to have to steal someone from the AAC or the MWC, or invite BYU.

You might want to check your math on that ACC higher paying conference comment.

Revenue may balance out somewhat when the cord cutters are finished. But, that may be leveling down toward the PAC 12 by the others instead of the other way around. Heard a tongue in cheek comment the other day that said in the future we may be getting our college football fix (and other sports) from Google or Amazon instead of ESPN, CBS, etal.

Which is what I said the conference needed to do years ago instead of letting ESPN and Fox dictate the conference schedule and his piss poor negotiating with DirectTV.

That was somewhat surprising to learn that the Vitamin League was ahead of the ACC in revenue, but that could change when the ACC launches its own network in the near future.

ESPN already owns the ACC tier 3 rights, they don't have to pay the ACC another dime for an ACC network.

i love how everybody points to "recent struggles in football and basketball" because of what happened this season but then ignore 2016-17 UW in the playoff USC in the Rose and 15 with 10 bowl teams and 6-4 record
and also in 17 Oregon Final 4 Arizona and UCLA sweet 16
I admittedly only browsed the article because it's another click bait type of hit piece, but wasn't it mostly talking about the financial disparity more than keying off the on field/court struggles?
