I was looking at Bracketology and it got me thinking about how I just absolutely do NOT want to face Oregon or Villanova in the tournament. These are the two teams who I believe we simply do not match up with at all. Oregon more than 'Nova, but I don't want to see either. Of course if we play Oregon in the tourney in all likelihood that means it's in the FF or NC, so I guess that'd be ok.

How about you guys? What teams do you feel you match up poorly with and would want to avoid?

As far as match ups go, I'd like to avoid any team with a good interior presence. I think that's where the Gophers weaknesses are. So teams like UNC, Baylor, Gonzaga, Florida State etc. And, just teams that are better than us, so basically anybody on the 1-4/5 line. It'd be nice if we were to win our 1st round game, if the other favored team we were going to play next lost so we could play a double digit seed.

Also, I can't believe I'm actually able to respond to this question.

After watching nearly every team in the top 25 a few times or more this year I don't want to face Cincinnati or Florida State. Both teams have great length and can dig in on defense and can score well also.

Any team with a PG will give Duke problems. Marcus Keene of Central Michigan comes to mind.

If Marquette gets in

Whether I'm talking them or the Gophers

Games against UNC or UL probably result in 50 pt losses.

So I'd like to avoid both of those teams forsure

Not so much a team, but I want to avoid an 8/9 seed.

This was supposed to be a rebuilding year so just making the tourney is good enough. But that seed guarantees we get Nova, North Carolina, or Gonzaga in the second round. The two or three seeds won't be much easier but it gives us a better chance to get in the Sweet Sixteen and be "back" earlier than I hoped for

The obvious answer is Butler, but we won't see them unless we both reach the Final 4.

I would also not like to see UCLA. They have skilled and mobile big men who are a mismatch problem for us.

That said, the one team I didn't want to see in the tourney last year was Oklahoma, and we pounded the shit out of them.

As often is in the tourney, when you're hot, it doesn't matter what mismatch you have.

I approve of this message. But FSU on the road/neutral site isn't exactly the most intimidating team.

I'm an Illinois State fan, and I want to face duke. Paris Lee, ISU's PG, won MVP and DPOY in the MVC conference. I have a feeling he is going to be a story of the tourney should ISU do well.

You obviously don't want to face the top teams in the country but I wouldn't want to face average teams who can hit 3s all over the court. In a single elimination tourney there is nothing worse than facing a team catching fire from the outside.

Those Monmouth Hawks seem intimidating, hopefully they win their conference so we don't have to face them in the NIT
