Well we are 45 to 50 games into the season and we know who is in the bottom 10 teams. At this point, and with the 2017 draft being so deep, which organization starts the annual tanking process ?

The Celts spot looks pretty secure (thank you Nets). The Nets are not tanking. But I think these teams are going to tank:

1. LA. Its pretty obvious they are in a bad place. At this point, with arguably Ingram as the prized piece 3 to 5 years from now when he gets some meat on him they have a tough challenge; win enough to get to 25 games and get a little better?, or lose enough to get and keep a coveted top three pick. Great arguments each way.

2. Kings. Hey you got Boogie but you need some firepower behind him, especially a floor general. Injuries have already hit you recently, and your just not going anywhere....what is the long term plan? I am thinking if your keeping Cousins you need some talent, and a top 5 draft pick might be ready to impact right away.

3. Sixers. Now this is a very very difficult situation. Embid is a beast, and he is instilling a defensive attitude and winning way.....your 7-3 in your last 10.....why tank now? Well the answer is: ITS ONE OF THE BEST DRAFTS FOR GUARDS IN YEARS. Your not getting a guard for Noel so this is your best avenue.

4. Dallas. Yeah, no need to even discuss. You need to get bad, and quickly. You will tank for sure.

5. Phoenix. Man the team has talent on paper, but you remain in purgatory. Probably you look at the sixers and think, hey, they finally are getting a payoff for years in the bottom, maybe we can too. I dont know alot about the Suns so what do you think.

Which team will start the tank first?

This is a great thread that brings up another great question that must be answered first. Which team will sell? You will have your answer in 1 month

Yeah your spot on. I think the two will be intertwined. But if you are to sell off would you wait and win a few more before then?

With a very small possibility of the Lakers actually keeping the pick, I doubt they'll be tanking. They're experimenting and they currently suck, but they're not tanking.

Sixers definitely arent tanking....they have won a bunch of games of late and are trying to win.

The NEts- they have no reason to tank becuase they dont get their pick- they are just really really bad.

The Lakers arent tanking- they just spent 50 million dollars on Deng, Mozgov and Clarkson

the only team that i really see might be tanking is Miami- and thats only a maybe.

I can't believe the Lakers suck again this bad. The good thing is if they do manage to keep the pick for 2017, it's unprotected for 2018. Odds are they will still suck next year, so it looks like either way Philly will be getting a great value on the Michael Carter Williams trade.

yah after November it looked like there was ZERO chance they keep it

now if i had to bet either way id bet they keep it. Only the Nets seem to be worse.

of course they arent tanking- they spent 50 million to bring back Clarkson and sign Mozgov and Deng. You arent "tanking" when you spend 200 million dollars in free agency.

Yeah I never understood why they spent so much or what amounts to 3 role players. I know the cap went up and all, but that's pretty bad.

I believe the Sixers have the right to swap picks with Sacramento, not sure if it protected. The Sixers own the Lakers pick if it is not top 3. Thank you Sam Hinkie.

Imagine if the Sixers get like the 5th and 6th picks in the draft......plus you get to add Simmons.....maybe trade Okafor for a guard

it could come together there rather quickly. Id say the Sixers have one more non-playoff year where they develop guys more fully next year---- after that....they should be ready for some sustained success.

You're seriously mocking the Clarkson contract?!? Have you seen what Gilbert handed out?

How much is Thompson getting paid again?

how am i mocking it?

i said they arent tanking because they gave him money. lol. Its the complete OPPOSITE of mocking him- saying that YES- they were trying to win so they gave the guy 50M.

Do you think the Lakers are tanking? I certainly dont- you cant say a team is tanking when they spent 200 million dollars in the offseason.

for all the criticism Hinkie took- i dont think there are too many teams right nowthat would trade spots with the Sixers....definitely a few...but as far as rebuilding efforts go- theirs is absolutely primed.

have no clue where Tristan Thompson came from- but Yes- Thompson's contract is a STEAL.....guy signed through his prime that just put up double doubles inthe last 2 NBA Finals and is one of the most versatile defensive big men in the entire league.

So $16m a year for Thompson is considered a steal but $12.5m for Clarkson is stupid?

Again, you're WAAY to high on a below-average player like TT. Put his per-48 min stats up against all the bigs in the league and he ranks close to BOTTOM.

did i say 12.5M for Clarkson is stupid?

honestly i dont think you have the ability to read.

I said that the Lakers arent tanking as evidenced by spending 200 million dollars on Deng, Clarkson and Mozgov.

and for the record i dont think 12.5M for Clarkson is "stupid"- but i also think semi-efficient combo guards that arent big enough to be shooting guards, but dont handle the ball well enough to be a point guard is not very good...."stupid" is a little harsh....combo guards like that are pretty common in the NBA. Shit....look at Waiters- he got 3M a year and hes more talented then Clarkson is.
