Not sure I agree that this is the best haul for the Spurs but maybe. It would really depend on whether they think Kuzma and/or Ingram can become All-Star level players. The 2 late 1sts and a future pick from the Lakers, which I think would need to be 2020, isn't all that great a haul.

It's not a flashy top 10-12 pick but the Spurs are good at what they do......drafting late in the first (because they have been contenders for years and it's where they typically draft and are great at scouting Euro players) and in the 2nd round.

You think that package is better than, say, #10, #26, Saric, and Covington? Toss in a couple of 2nds as sweeteners?

You would do that for Leonard? He could be a rental since he's said he wants to be in Los Angeles?

This is all hypothetical of course and I don't think that Kawhi is leaving, but I would imagine that the Spurs would probably want to make the pick. #10 pick is FAR more likely to result in a quality player than something in the late 20s.

Ingram and Kuzma represent more upside than Saric/Covington mostly since Covington is a known entity. But as of right now I think you would have a tough time arguing that Kuzma and Ingram are better than Saric/Covington.

If it were more about upside then swap out Covington with Fultz.

Actually, I think Ingram/Kuzma are better now as well, and have far more trade value. I have no idea what Fultz' trade value might be, and it might be too low to move him right now.

Robert Covington was 1st team All-NBA defense. Dario Saric is a bigger version of Kuzma.

Like I said, to each their own. Fans always overstate the value of their team's players. If you think Kuzma/Ingram is better than Saric/covington/#10 then you and I disagree.

Different question.

FTR, Kawhi hasn't said anything.

Who did then? The Spurs? His agent? If it's his agent, it's Kawhi saying it, just second-hand.

This wasn't just a random rumor; multiple sources got the info at the same time. This was a release, not a rumor.

IIRC, Woj said his source was someone from Kawhi's camp.

You're probably right.

But also, it's public perception that Kawhi's uncle is driving this whole thing.

...who must have tweeted everyone the same info. That's not just a rumor in such a case, IMO.

Well it is still just a rumor but that doesn't mean it isn't true. And we don't know how important going to LA is to him. Heck we don't even know if Kawhi really wants to leave.

All signs seem to point to that though.

I do.

But only because I think Ingram is the best prospect in that trade by a good bit and Kuzma more valuable than Covington not because he is better, but because he is cheaper for longer.

Or to him trying to pressure the Spurs to give him a Supermax contract.

Zero chance of that.

He was a top 3 player in the entire league. If he were angling for the supermax, he would simply call Pop and say "I am all in if you all give me the max".

And that would end the whole thing. No angling needed. Kawhi is easily worth the supermax.

Except Pop and Kawhi haven't been talking for some time and Pop publicly shamed Kawhi. So that relationship needs to be fixed.

The reports about Kawhi wanting the Supermax have been floating for a while now. As have been the rumors that the Spurs have been reluctant to give it to him.

I also think we have to consider the possibility that Kawhi's camp is being run by incompetent people who think they know what they are doing, particularly Uncle Dennis.
