...I damn near build the car in my head. And once it starts....it doesn't stop !!!!! :gaah:

This time it is a 1940 Olds 88.

I don't even own the car. The guy that has it wants too much for it. He thinks it's perfect as is. I think it has potential. I want to cut it up and murder it out.

It looks good now and that is why it caught my eye...but it's $45,000 in current configuration.

It is practically built the way I would have done it. He dropped the body onto a 1987 Buick Grand National frame and drivetrain. It has a 500 hp turbo charged V6. (when Buick released the Buick Grand National it was the fastest production car GM offered...even faster than the Vette !).

I would not need to worry about doing any of that work saving a ton of time and money.

Only I would then want to modify the body. May even add a fastback. Chop the top. Put big tubs in the back to allow a shorten 9" rear end and stuff some big tires in the back.

I am thinking something like this...

What you guys think ? I think I would want to paint it black cherry pearl.

Sounds like a great idea, but I can understand why it keeps you up at night.

I really like that color.

I can't believe he got 45k for it. These fucking car shows on TV are fucking with my livelihood ! Everyone thinks their cars are worth a fortune even if they haven't ran in years....or you get some idiot that forks out 45k for that car.

About 3 years ago I could have offered him 25k and he would have jumped on it. No way these cars jumped up in value that much !

Now with the internet so popular and those idiots on TV building POS cars and selling them for 50k for some really shitty cars ! I wouldn't buy a car from them monkeys. I've seen them paint cars with rattle cans.

One of the guys in our Car Club builds cars strictly to take to the Barrett Jackson auction in Arizona. He is building a 64 Chevy Impala SS right now. He thinks it will go for 80k when it's done.

It looks almost exactly like this car:

It seems really amazing the prices that some of these cars get.

It's becoming an investment and tax shelter for the wealthy. They used to buy art for the same reason. Now its classic cars.
