9 runs in five games = 1.8 runs per game
Team batting average: 28-166 = .169
Team On Base Percentage: 47-195 = .241
Team Slugging percentage: 39-166 = .295
Team OPS: .241 + .295 = .536

Yeah, it won't stay this bad. If it did, it would be historically bad. But, seriously, it looks like some of our hitters are sleep walking, especially Cano and Seager.

Let's dig a hole and then play with our backs against the wall for the next five months. It's the Mariner way, after all. Taking charge early? Inconceivable!

This is baseball... and it's a marathon. Teams starting out fast dont mean theyre good and vice versa.
The team is unwatchable right now buy My general rule is give it until July.

Not even a full week into the MLB regular season and Mariners fans already know whats coming.

We've been conditioned. Erase the era from 1995-2003 and you have a history of failure. Outside of that time frame, there have only been 6 winning seasons in 31 years with the high water mark being 88 wins.

I think they are trying something new. The last few years they start out hot and get us all teased about a playoff run then lay an egg. Maybe they'll start out like crap then make their run when Seahawks preseason starts?

So profound!
Right because many "baseball" fans thinks its football and expect the team to go 162-0. Yall dont onow what baseball is and i'll be more than happy to clarify it again if you need anymore "profound" thoughts. BASEBALL and the season lasts until September.

"Erase"?? Funny. Considering it's part of their history.

July is a nice marker, teams that start out hot can end up being crap by July...Vice-versa, teams starting out cold can have a 10 game lead by July... BUT, I will say this, the Mariners haven't won this division since 2001, it's 2017 so I can understand the feelings.. Also if you get too far under .500 sometimes it's hard to claw back, so the M's can't let this continue for much longer, otherwise they'll find themselves 15 games outta 1st place in the 1st month, it's not easy clawing back, the team will be playing catch-up all year... So it's imperative that they start playing better pretty soon... I can't imagine this team will keep hitting this bad for much longer, they can't be this bad... I hope...

You cannot take the standing seriously until the trade deadline that where you determine if you should buy or sell unless we are 15 games under .500 by next month I wouldnt be so conerned

A team has to decide if it is a buyer or seller about 20 games before the trade deadline. The trade deadline is typically about 120 games into the season. So, the team would need to decide what they want to do around game 100. Does that sound reasonable?

If it does sound reasonable then let's take a look at the 2017 playoffs. It will probably take about 91 wins to win the AL West, 89 wins to win the #5 seed and 87 wins to take the #6 seed. At the 100 game mark in the season, those numbers would be 56 wins for the AL West crown, 55 wins for the first wild card, and 54 wins for the second wild card.

The Mariners are currently 1-5. In order to reach 54 wins (for the 6th seed) by game 100, they would have to go 53-41 over the next 94 games. A 53-41 team over 94 games projects to a 91-71 team over 162 games. Do you think this team is a 91 game winner? Every loss pushes their back further and further against the wall.

We don't 'onow' what baseball is? We expect a team to go 162-0? Sorry, I've never met a single fan who expected their team to 162-0. If exaggeration is your crutch, then you have no argument.

You guys are pushing way into the numbers we havent even had our first home this year. As of right now Tampa Bay and Minnesota by your calculations are going to finish ahead of the Yankees, Blue Jays, Giants, Cardinals and Mets all of whom were either in the playoffs or in contention

Exactly! And it is not like we have 35 out of 40 years of ineptitude to base it on...:dhd:

well with that thought process we can safely assume that the next time the Cubs will win a World Series will be in the year 3016

I'd give it til the end of May but if this is what we're expecting then nobody is untouchable. Cano, Seager, and Hernandez are probably untradeable because of their contracts but Cruz would be a good pickup for a team looking for a boost at the plate to make a run.

Nobody should be shocked by this proclamation after the last week. The Mariners led in Anaheim 8-1 on Sunday. They were up 3-1 against the Astros on Tuesday. And they jumped out to a 5-0 advantage Wednesday on Houston. They didn’t win any of those games, and in every case, a reliever was on the mound when the lead switched.

That's horrible... Up 14 runs in 3 games and we lose all 3...
