You may select up to 2 options.

I left the defense out of this as that is legit new.

I screwed up. I answered it as what I thought it would take for him to realistically be here in 2018.

For him to earn MY vote of confidence he can only lose 2 more games the rest of the season. That means he'd have to win 2 of the 4 against Wisconsin, Ohio State, Penn State, and Iowa.

I mean look at the rest of our schedule. That's some scary shit.

After Rutgers every single game is going to be tough. Illinois on the road is not an auto W by any means. How about Purdue on the road? Have you watched that team this year? They're not your normal Purdue team.

I fear thousands of empty seats come Northwestern game.

I don't think there is anyway he isn't here next year.

since the question was "with you" meaning me... only way he earns anything is if he finds a way to turn it around and win all 9 remaining games which would get us into the CCG obviously, anything short of that he needs to go. My biggest worry is getting someone who doesnt understand what it takes to win, installing dicipline and technique have been a sore spot not just with riley either

I opted for firing Cavanaugh either now or at the end of the season and finishing 6-3 in the Big 10.

I picked finishing 6-3... however, I would go to 5-4, make a bowl and then fire Cav and hire the best OL coach there is regardless of cost to come in and coach next year. Don't fire DL yet IMO.

For me, it is fire two buddies.

The Dline was a problem, in comes Parella.
The special teams was a problem, fired Read. Voila!! Lightbourn is playing pretty good.
The defense was a problem, fired Banker. Is the defense improved? Unknown. 6 quarters of utter crap, then 6 quarters of OMG the offense is not doing us any favors and only giving up one VERY CRUCIAL touchdown.

If he is serious in his wanting to be known as a good head coach in America, then fire Cavanaugh and Langsdorf.

Three years of coaching from Cavanaugh and this is what we have.

Riley takes over a 9 win Nebraska team and delivers a losing season.

Riley will be here in 2018 unless the team goes 3-9, 2-10, 1-11. Eichorst won't last if the record is 5-7 or worse. The new AD replaces Riley for the 2019 season at the latest. Riley can only last for 2017 and 2018, and maybe only last for 2017.

2017 First year head coaches

Texas Herman takes over a dumpster fire, and it still might be a dumpster fire.
Oklahoma Lincoln Riley takes over a good oklahoma team and continues the success with Stoops players
Minnesota Fleck takes over a 9 win Minnesota team and looks like another 9 win team, if not more
Oregon Taggart takes over a dumpster fire with talent, and has them 3-0
Purdue Brohm takes over a complete double dumpster fire, has them 2-1
Baylor Rhule takes over a dumpster fire and pours gas on it
USF Strong comes from dumpster fire Texas but keeps USF rolling with lesser competition
Western Kentucky Sanford takes over for Brohm, might be pulling a Mike Riley
FAU Kiffin is a walking dumpster fire
UCONN Edsall was not given much there, but will deliver a winning season
LSU Orgeron his seat is already on fire. He was a dumpster fire at Ole Miss.
Ole Miss Matt Luke who? wasn't given much, will probably be a bottom dweller in SEC
Indiana Allen has Indiana competitive, He has an OOC schedule of pansies.
Temple Collins Who? Uh started with a good team and has beat the cupcakes so far
Cincinnati Fickell no wonder Ohio State let him go
FIU Butch Davis still sucks
California Wilcox somehow has this team 3-0 but CALIFORNIA does this stuff and then gets in the PAC and looks like crap. Sonny Dykes did average before Wilcox got there, but is using Sonny Dykes recruits
Western michigan Lester is no PJ Fleck, looks like Fleck just might be a good coach
Fresno State Tedford sucked before still sucks outscored 89-26 by two CFP teams
San Jose State Brennan doesn't look promising
Nevada Norvell say uh oh, took what used to be a sort of tough team to a team that Nebraska might beat in 2017
Georgia State Shawn Elliot who? won't last long.

Out of all the new coaches

Fleck, Taggart, and Brohm are continuing their winning ways they had at other schools.

Charlie Strong does okay as long as he is not in a Power 5 conference.

Herman might have been dealt a bad hand at Texas. Still, he is 1-2 with a loss to Maryland. AS Texas people tell us, well you need more kids from Texas. Yup, Baylor and Texas sure do well with them.

Quite a few proven old talent that sucks, still suck. Fickell, Davis, Tedford, Edsall, Kiffin, and Orgeron.

Coaches that were given a HC job but won't last long are the rest of them.

You hire losing coaches, you tend to still get losing coaches.
You hire winning coaches, they tend to keep on winning.
You hire unknowns, you get who knows what.

Nebraska will need to be looking at coaches from non Power 5 schools that are proven winners.

Now Riley has been a head coach for over 20 years so there is a difference between him and Dabo being a rookie coach at Clemson.

My point is that Dabo would likely have been fired at Nebraska.

2008 - (4-3)
2009 - (9-5)
2010 - (6-7)
2011 - (10-4)
2012 - (11-2)
2013 - (11-2)
2014 - (10-3)
2015 - (14-1)
2016 - (14-1)
2017 - (3-0)

I said fire Cav and 6-3. There is no way with the players he has in place we should go less then 9 wins. If he turns it around now I'll give him a pass on the two he threw away so give me 7-5 and I would add the bowl game needs to be competitve.
Cav I see no reason to keep him. His refusal to make changes in personnel once the season starts has instilled a "right to play" attitude wiuth the starters, which in my opinion they have regressed from last year to this.
You have players that are not performing yet you refuse to remove them and give a guy a chance who though young may have the attitude to go out and make some hits.
I don't think we have a talent problem there we have a want to win problem there and Cavanaugh has to go now. Not the end of the season. You cut out cancer as quickly as possible and he is a cancer that has spread throughout the entire line.

Finish 7-5. Im sorry you brought the wrong staff with you but it buys no more time with me. 3rd season at nebraska should not be a losing or even .500 record.
