My brother and I beat this game back around 1988-89. There was a Sheetz that had just this game back in the corner of the store a few blocks from our house. Basically robbed every member of my family of all of their quarters they had saved up to feed the habit that week. We both got grounded once everyone noticed their quarters were gone but it was worth it!

I had 1 really good run playing Galaga once in the early 1990s and haven't come close to duplicating such an amazing achievement playing that game.

I was pretty good at the Pacman game, but generally speaking arcade games were not big on "to do" list.

Nowadays I have been known to play some Golden Tee Golf and over the years I have gotten good enough to kick everyone's butt regularly including the fella that was my mentor 5 or 6 years ago.

I didn't exactly dominate any arcade games. The ones I had the most fun/least frustration playing were Donkey Kong and Pac-Man, because you didn't have to do much more than move the joystick or jump occasionally.

I wasted so much money that could have been spent on penthouses...

I could only beat arcade games when I had the determination and enough quarters.

I loved playing Spy Hunter, but never beat it. The two games I recall beating were TMNT: The Arcade Game...

and The Simpsons Arcade Game.

And I played those games mostly because I could get the occasional help from my brother or one of my sisters.

Any Galaga machine I would find I would get high score on.

Also, Mario Brothers. Not Super Mario Brothers, but Mario Brothers, where you were running around in sewers collecting coins, punching fireballs and flipping turtles onto their backs and punching them in the face.

I LOVED that Simpsons game, I was eventually able to finish it in one quarter, so much fun...

In 1999-2000, there was a Fox and Hound that had NFL Blitz '99. I found a play that was basically a "hail mary" that worked EVERY SINGE TIME so naturally I would destroy the high score and at the time, I never thought about if maybe the game was connected to the internet so I "COULD" had had the best score ever? I would beat teams by 80+ points every time. It was quite boring actually.

Good call on the TMNT.

One game that took plenty of tokens was X-Men.

Another one was Terminator 2, the one were the guns vibrated and just kept going. That game was a blast.

If I remember correctly, you could beat that X-Men game on a small handful of Tokens/Quarters. Easiest strategy was just to jump kick with Nightcrawler back and forth and the enemies had almost no chance of hitting you.

I remember some king fu game at the general store across from our high school, it had a glitch in it like that where you could just keep doing the same pattern and it would win every time. But like you said, it got pretty boring after a while.

Gauntlet..because 4 of us could play

Excitebike

Hated games like Gauntlet. That was a pretty clever way for them to take all your money; three or four of you start playing, you get killed early, your friends are screaming, "get back in! Get back in!" and in less than 10 minutes you're out of quarters.
