They do that to protect opening day. If the game is rained out they want the next day available to replay it without game 2 becoming opening day. I hate it

Yeah, I never have liked this open date after the first game. I know they do it just in case there's a rainout and they can play the next day...but what do you do when it rains the rest of the year? You reschedule, or you do a DH.

If the first day ISN'T a rainout, why don't they just go ahead and play the following two days?

Cards had 2 days off because the Scrubs didn't want to play a game where they would lose more revenue due to the incomplete construction/remodel. They used weather as an excuse over 6 hours before the start of the game to call it while there wasn't any rain....LOL. Scrubs being Scrubs

Joe Bautista from the Blue Jays was interviewed today and mentioned something I never heard before. Most of these guys come north a day before their first game and the extra day gives them time to get the family settled and for guys who were last minute additions to make living arrangements or at least to start
