I heard on 950 this morning that an unidentified FO exec said that this years draft will be the weakest in at least a decade. Apparently, he is unidentified because it is against NFL rules for a team exec to put down the draft before it is run as it can have an adverse effect on viewership ect.
With that in mind, IIRC this man said in a normal draft 17-22 of those selected in the 1st round are bonafied 1st round picks and in this years draft he estimate's there are 12-15 bonafied 1st round picks.
He also said this in this draft there are lots of solid players, but the limitations are at QB, WR, RB in the skill positions.
This seems to make sense to me and it also confirms in my mind that this was a great time to trade away picks for a known playmaker.:yahoo:

You'll find a great place-kicker! There's great players in the trenches. Funny, its where the NFL has lacked performance, league wide. We need our lineman. It will be a great draft.

Uhsplit, I totally disagree with the idea that this draft is a weak draft. Does it have the BOOM power of insta-star like last season with RGIII and Luck (btw, has there been a more valued #2 overall pick in the history of the NFL then RGIII?)? No, but this draft is extremely deep with quality players. Maybe not the superstar types but IMO full of 10-yr starter types, should they fall to the right team. RW drafted by, say the Jags, would have been a dumpster fire. Same with CK on the Niners side. With proper development, there are quite a bit of quality players in this draft.

It is definitely a weak class for QBs, but I disagree about RB and WR. There are more developmental projects at WR like Patterson, Hopkins, and Dobson...but these guys have the raw talent to become amazing players. RB is relatively stacked IMO and deep. Is there an AP type in this draft? Hell no (although prior to injury, I considered Lattimore to be close). But there is some serious depth in a position that is trending to be a shared responsibility anyways.

This draft is deep at safety, DL, and OL. I consider it to be relatively deep at WR, just more developmental projects then finished products. Decent at rush backers and TE.

It would certainly explain the busier than expected free agency period for the Seahawks. It might also explain why they've said that the guys they do draft are going to have a difficult time making the team. I guess we'll find out over the next few days.

Yeah, it sucks when you have to draft people like Joe Montana in the 3rd round with the 82nd pick.

You never know what you are getting... the best teams find the diamonds in the rough.

Players like Torry Smith late 2nd rounded that has become one of the top receivers in the NFL.

Not high currently, but I wouldn't say no if you offered. As far as the draft being weak, I don't think there are a ton of top tier talent as in past drafts, but you don't rank drafts according to how many 1st rd picks have 1st round potential. It's a 7 rd draft and this draft is deep.

Heard again today, rounds 2-5 should be solid. Only KC knows who the 1st pick is because there is no surefire first pick guarantee.

Many scouts have stated that this is the worst draft in 32 years, but hey they are wrong often.

They said that a couple years ago. I almost get the feeling that if there isn't a bonafide badass QB at the top of the draft, the pundits/scouts say that shit almost instinctively. I just don't agree with the idea of basing the quality of a draft on it's first round, which is how those critiques of the draft feel like.

Yah hey I think just at a glance there is some good D players and some receivers that will pan out sure and definitely at least 3 or so OT's,so yah.

It just doesn't have that QB hype I guess.

I hope the Hawks draft a Running Back, either Christine Michael, Stephan Taylor or Andre Ellington

In terms of high profile names I believe its a weak draft. But there is a lot of depth in this draft. It really is a crapshoot.

There's a lot of solid talent in the trenches. The problem is that the 2nd round guys aren't that far above and beyond the 5th round guys. JS has said how excited he is about the 4th to 6th round. It's a great draft to trade back, which is exactly what I hope to see.
