Obviously in the NL the overwhelming favorite is the Cubs- and in the AL its split between the Indians and Red Sox.

If you go to the next tier you can throw in a few other teams probably- Dodgers, Nationals, maybe the Rangers.....maybe the Giants or Mets.....

but i mean - if its not the Cubs vs. Indians/Red Sox it will be because of an upset.

I'm gonna say Red Sox over Dodgers.

Kershaw finally gets to the big stage, maybe actually throws well in the post season for once.

And frankly I'm just playing the odds because rarely do teams go to b2b WS.

The royals did and frankly it was a bit flukey (both runs had just absurd amounts of luck come into play).

The Rangers did it. Making some huge deals to make it happen.

Before that, was it the early 2000s yankees?

I'm just not betting on that.

Also all of those are AL teams anyway. Cubs are the best team, but I'm gonna do a little card counting right now.

CLE i'm not betting on cause you just don't bounce back from an epic choke like that so easily.

Did anyone else see that Ryan Dempster and Eric Gagne are planning on pitching for Team Canada in the WBC?

I expect a pretty big decline from the Rangers. I don't think they win more than 86 games. Should be a pretty tough division too, especially if (huge if) the Angels get innings from Richrds/Skaggs/etc.

Richards will never cover 1B again.

I doubt it will be the Mets vs Royals.

We're a couple of pieces short of being real contenders. Really need two quality bats.

I could still see the Rangers grabbing a WC, I don't think there's anyone that stands out. Mariners could have one of the best lineups in the league, but their rotation is rather iffy. Rangers rotation isn't without it's question marks, of course.

Another White Sox fan eh? You and I are like the dodo bird, my friend.

Yeah I was born in Chicago, and like most kids picked up my teams from my dad, who loved baseball most. But back when he was deciding who to follow, all his friends were Cubs fans so just to be a rebel he picked the Sox. He also liked Early Wynn.

So I was a Sox fan from the late 70s to now. But I moved away from Chicago young, then went to Cal and stayed in SF, and the Giants became my team. If helped that it was 1988 when I got here. My wife is also die hard SF fan so I can honestly say I'm Giants first now. But I still root for the Sox, mostly with my dad. There's almost no overlap or conflict between those teams. A Giants White Sox world series? Come on.

I'm glad they are finally going to suck on purpose, do an actual rebuild, and not keep postponing the future trying to win 84 games. This is how it's done now, see the Cubs and Royals and Astros. Sox are finally giving that a shot. My dad is pissed, too old to see it, doesn't like them going full rebuild. But I'm trying to show him what's up.

True story:

Around Christmas 2004 I'm at a fundraiser thing for ARF, Tony La Russa's animal rescue charity, I start talking to this old guy who can't believe he's talking to a Sox fan in Oakland (where the event was), says he's Eddie Einhorn. I'm all "is Jerry here?" and he says yeah they are there supporting Tony. So he brings me over, it's crowded and loud so I only say a few words but I let him know how I still follow them, he says thanks great etc, then I say "Gotta sign that Japanese second baseman, Mr. Reinsdorf" He goes "I know, I want him but his agent is a prick!". I just say again "Don't matter go get him" and we smiled and nodded good bye.

I think it's clear that I directly got them to sign Iguchi who had a very solid and overlooked contribution to the WS winners in 2005. I'm not saying I deserve a WS ring, but....well....ok I am saying that.
