So, this just in:

An MRI revealed no structural damage in Noah Syndergaard's elbow.
But he did have soreness. This is the state of the young stud arms that MLB seems to think it needs.
Here I thought it was only Dusty Baker who ruined young pitchers.

Guess not.

Any time you see "elbow soreness", go ahead and bank on TJ surgery coming pretty soon. Especially on guys like Syndergaard who's touching triple digits nearly 100 times each game, every five days.

I hope fpr Syndergaard, and MLB, that he's all right. Baseball needs stars like him.

They are going to start comparing him to Dave Kingman if he doesn't get his average up. But his defense is much better than kingmans.
Kingmans lifetime BA was 2.34, with 442 homeruns, and over 1200 RBI's. That's better than I thought. Thats not to far from HF numbers. I wonder what Sabermetrics would say about him? I'm sure they would have some stat that I've never heard of to say he was the best or worst player in MLB history. $%^^$ sabermetrics

KIngman would be a zillionaire if he played today.

Former Reds great Eddie Volcano has made history. His induction into the Hall of Fame may wait till the second ballot now. Man, what a nightmare.

Cardinals lift Rosenthal from closer's job, apparently thinking Oh, Siegrist and BROXTON can handle it.
I would hope they don't go after Aroldis, though i would guess the Yanks will try to sign him instead of deal for prospects.

I'll bet if they do deal for prospects. They will get better than the Reds got..

Rosenthal never wanted to close. He was marginally good at it with a team that was capable of winning without a closer. But I have a hunch that when somebody decides that the closer is a waste of time, it will take some "genius" in St. Louis to actually prove it. After that, all these other brain-dead managers will say, 'duh, gee why didn't we think of that?"

Mat Latos signs minor-league deal with the Nationals.
It's odd how guys who make the big leagues have a knack (agent) for being able to stay there.

Matty joins Bronson Arroyo on the payroll, and Chris Heisey. Curious stuff.

Hard to find a Nats team without an ex-Red or three. Odd, rare for ex-Nats to be Reds. Maybe it's the Bowden influence still lingering...wonder if they stopped demanding bonus kickbacks from kids in the DR they signed since JB and Jose Rijo got ejected ? Oddly fitting crime for a team in D.C. methinks.

My guess is that Dusty has high respect for guys like Bronson and Heisey. I'd guess Latos is low risk. Matt Belisle, of course, is somewhat ancient history.

Matt Harvey's shoulder injury should be compelling enough information to prove that a strong young pitching rotation is just that.

Looks like the Yankees will trade Chapman. Bet they get better than the Reds did from them

Does anyone else think it's a bit odd...when the BEST teams in MLB are the ones loading up on everyone elses expensive players for the post season push ? I know it happens all the time, but not sure I get the rationale of a team within striking distance of clinching before Labor Day.

I understand teams 3-4 games back needing just one more piece... but the CUBS ? They were obviously good enough already, weren't they ?

The NLC is about to implode leaving only the Cubs with a playoff pulse.

Bruce traded for two prospects to the mets... Neither look like much to me. Remember Bruce still has an option year on his contract, if the Mets want to keep him.
