Kovalev has true one punch power. He can literally turn the lights off with a single shot out of the blue. I'm not even sure it needs to be a clean shot. That's the absolute definition of always having a puncher's chance. So I can't count him out.

But Ward is too skilled, too smart, too crafty, and just too conservative for me to bet against. A lot depends on whose the ref, I haven't really looked into all of that yet. If I were to guess though; Ward stas Kovalev with a ton of holding, and he'll get away with a whole bunch of dirty little shit. Ward is by far the dirtiest big name fighter in boxing and he's really made an art of it. He'll dance around and show his jab and some pot shots. Definitely won't engage. Kovalev ends up getting several warnings from the ref, maybe even a penalty when he retaliate out of frustration. Ends up getting tired way too quick because he's angry and can't relax. Ward ends up the clear winner and you come away with the impression that he did better than what he actually did. Even though nothing ever really happened. Non boxing purists who last watched a boxing match when Mayweather fought Pacquiao, will tell everyone again how dead the sport is and how boring Ward is. Etc.

Or Kovalev KTFO's him.

I think a lot of people in this thread is underselling Kovalev just a bit. He beat Pascal twice, which is probably better than anything Ward has faced in the last 3 years when he was on that hiatus and has fought mediocre fighters since returning. With that said, I love that this is an actual top match up for once and we don't have divisions like the Top Rank vs Golden boy BS to deal with here..

I agree with Max.

114-113 was a possible result. There were a lot of toss up rounds IMO.

I feel like Kovalev won 4 clear rounds while Ward won 5 clear rounds. 3 were toss ups to me

Kovalev should have won. I think a rematch is in order.
