Nice work 46. I've got a question about the Motley kid from Christiansburg. I saw where we offered. Is he being recruited strictly as a QB?

He is supposedly a dual threat quarterback/athlete recruit, but he will get his first shot behind center. He will NOT be the only quarterback recruited this year though, I am sure.

That didn't take long. We got our first verbal for the Class of 2012 tonight. Davion Tookes, a DB with 4.47 speed out of Fairburn, Georgia. Don't know much about him, but Gray wanted him, so that says enough for me. He's listed at 5-10, 168.

Im not 46 but being from the area i have heard quite a bit about Motley. I havnt seen him play myself but from what i gather he'll most likely get a (courtesy) shot @ QB and find a home @ safety or rec. <-----like i said thats mostly based off the opinion of others and some newspaper articles + a lot can change in the next few years

Glad to see things get rolling for '12. Like you said if he's good enough for gray he's good enough for me. What i really love though is the fact he's OOS. I dont know what it is but a VT offer just isnt "sexy" enough for VA kids anymore. Just an idea but maybe offering fewer in state guys(<-- to a point) and more OOS guys, makes that VT offer more appealing to the top tier VA kids. Just like ohio st, penn st, fla st, etc seem "sexy" to VA kids, i think VT could/should appeal to penn, nj, fla, ga, etc kids.

Our First Commit for 2012:

Davion Tookes, a cornerback out of Georgia committed to the Hokies last night. He is a lifetime Hokie fan, since he first started watching college football in the Vick years (does this make anyone else feel old) and says he is dopne with the process and fully committed. he is a teammate of Virgina tech prospect, Joshua Holsey.

Torrian Gray has some connection to one of the coaches at his school, so maybe a new out of state relationship is developing. This would certainly NOT suck as it is the school of Eric Berry, who has two brothers in a future class.

Holy crap. We just got a verbal from Donaldven Manning. Kid had offers from Alabama, Florida, Miami, and even UNC. Nice. One thing's for sure, we know how to haul in the DBs. There's also rumors Keith Marshall committed but I can't confirm this.

Committed where? I think he was a Georgia lean, but I wonder if Crowell's commitment did anything?

I may have jumped the gun on Marshall in my excitement. I saw a post on TSL about it, but then it was debunked pretty quick. Sorry to mislead.
But still, the Manning commit is huge. He's from Miami and we beat out UM, UF and Bama for him. NICE:D

Glad to hear Manning will be ready for early enrollment. At first i was worried that getting these commits so early that they would be swooped away later by other schools, but after reading interviews/articles on both it seems they are 100% hokie.

You're always on top of thing 46. Thanks for the break down.

Is it common for us to have so many offers out of state at this point?

And with the overhaul of the program I doubt their will be much loyalty to tenn.

Yeah I've noticed that for the past few years.

But I date a 22 year old (I'm 30) so I'm used to feeling old on a daily basis.
