I think there's a chance. He's still an above average pitcher and only a year removed from deserving a Cy Young. Even if he pitches exactly like this again for the next two years of his contract, 200 IP of average is still valuable.

I'd like to see them continue their rebuild by trading him, but not if it's just a salary dump. I, like probably most of their fans would not be happy to see them trade him for nothing prospects just to get rid of his salary. If they get some good prospects then I'd be ok with them eating some of the salary to facilitate a deal.

Price can't hack the Boston pressure. He's pulling a ton of shit to get out. His biggest problem is that huge contract he signed. He's not the brightest bulb on the chandelier and has pretty much alienated the Boston fan base by going after Dennis Eckersley who refused to get sucked in. Eck is a hall of Famer, something price will only be a visitor and have to pay admission.

Verlander would be a perfect fit in Boston. Innings eater and someone who's not weak of character.

Straight up swap for Price? Scenery change might do him some good.

I'd hate it if we did that. Verlander is pitching better anyway, similiar in age and a lot less money owed. Not to mention Price's injury history lately.

Depending upon price tag it could be an ok signing with Boston.

I am not ruling out the Dodgers at this point

No one can ever rule out the Dodgers acquiring an expensive player.

I don't think the Dodgers are going to trade for an aging pitcher like Verlander. This isn't the same front office as it was a few years ago.

What's the chances of Justin Verlander being traded in August?
Why didn't the Tigers try to trade Verlander last month, or did they?

Verlander, 34, can now be claimed by any of the 29 other teams. With the trade deadline having passed, he must be moved through waiver rules. If claimed, Detroit can either choose to take Verlander back, let the claiming team take on Verlander and his deal straight up, or work out a trade with that team within a 48 hour span.

But the Dodgers can claim he off the waiver list and see what the Tigers do then.

Verlander's been pretty meh this year. His strikeout rate's dipped from 10 K/9 to 8.7 (still pretty good), but his walk rate's a career high 4.2 and his FIP/xFIP marks are his worst since 2008.

Justin Verlander - S - Tigers
Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports that Justin Verlander has cleaved revocable waivers.

It's no surprise, of course, given that the veteran right-hander is owed over $60 million through the end of the 2019 season. Verlander remains a long shot to be traded this month, but the Tigers are now free to negotiate with all 29 other teams.:suds:

OK Boston fans....pick up Verlander's two years at $28mil each and hand over Jay Groome. Detroit isn't going to pay another team tons of money for their icon to pitch for someone else. Verlander still fills seats.

Price for Verlander???? Is this the ''baseball card trading'' thread????

Boston doesn't have enough to trade for verlander. Dodgers made big mistake taking sonny boy gray....verlander would have put Dodgers over
