For a TLDR: Money POURING IN on Georgia; Bettors Have NO FAITH in Oklahoma; Bama Is NC Favorite.

----

You may remember that the opening lines after playoff selections were Bama favored at -1 vs. Clemson and Oklahoma favored at -3 vs. Georgia.

There has been major movement in the lines since. By far the heaviest activity has been on Georgia. Massive money has been absolutely POURING IN on Georgia, enough to completely reverse that Oklahoma -3 to a Georgia -1.5. That's right: Georgia is now FAVORED against Oklahoma, which went from FAVORITE TO UNDERDOG in an astonishing 4.5 point swing in just a few days of betting.

Oklahoma's drop is not about the allegations against OU running back Rodney Anderson. The line shifted heavily on the first day of betting, days before the Anderson news broke, which has so far only shifted the line further by about half a point to one point. Depending on how that situation develops, Oklahoma could become an even bigger underdog. As the saying goes, "defense wins championships," and bettors believe Oklahoma HAS NO DEFENSE and that Georgia is a MUCH MORE COMPLETE TEAM. When the unstoppable force meets the immovable object, bettors believe the immovable object wins.

Many SportsHooplans thought it was ridiculous to have Bama favored over Clemson, but the bettors disagree, and the line has actually moved FURTHER in Bama's favor from Bama -1 to Bama -2.5 over Clemson. Alabama is now nearly a field goal favorite over Clemson.

Vegas is anticipating an all-SEC National Championship Game of Bama vs. Georgia, giving the matchup that the SEC Championship Game did not.

As far as winning the whole national championship goes: Bama started out slightly favored and has only improved its position to become the clear favorite. Oklahoma started out as #3 but has now dropped to #4, the BOTTOM of the four playoff teams, in futures markets, meaning it is considered the team LEAST LIKELY to win the national championship.

Computers don't like Oklahoma either because of defense.

I remain on the fence because with modern rules being a good bit offense oriented, there is a point when it doesn't matter how good your defense is, there will be scores.

The smart money usually waits until the last minute to get their money in. If you see the line move either way on gameday it will give you an idea of what the people that understand this think.

Great News!

One of the most popular sports betting systems is the ‘contrarian method’ of going against whatever side the public is backing. The idea behind this betting system is that the public can be easily brainwashed by the media and tends to be wrong more often than not, so the more excited and loaded up they are on one side of a game, the more likely it is that the ‘smart’ wager is taking the opposite side and fading them instead.

The most obvious reason this betting system makes sense and works consistently over time revolves around the fact that if the general public was mostly on the winning side, sportsbooks would have trouble staying in business.

Smart Money is on OU side

Smart money is on Georgia.......because NOBODY believes OU will be able to stop or even slow down the Georgia running game

If they run the ball at will the game won't be close......OU won't have the time to put up tons of points, they won't be on the field offensively.

Correct.... however when OU doesn't play a spread team and plays a conventional offense they play better. Been down this road before though Bama in 14, Auburn in 16 when OU was told they couldn't score on these teams and put up 40. Until someone stops OU I'm not buying they'll be held under 30 points.

I don't recall them playing spread teams their last few trips to the playoffs and getting blown off the field, or scoring 30.....

Maybe my memory is rusty

OU thrives at stopping one dimensional teams. And their weakness is the secondary. Baker is gonna have a field day.

UGA isn't one dimensional........they're one dimensional-ish

They can pass, and they do pass, just not to the tune of 300 yards a game. And your weakness is more than just your secondary. The DL doesn't scare anybody either.

That's great, except the contrarian method doesn't require you to bet the underdog every time...then it would be called the underdog method.

The line is there to create equilibrium. Vegas doesn't want there to be a "winning side" they want the sides to be equal. They make money on both sides, so in a perfect vegas world the money is 50/50.
