If Michael Russell wins, there would be 11 Americans that made it past the opening round in top singles competition.

So far, USA went 7-11 vs other countries in top singles competition

Remember when those tennis "experts" said Ryan Harrison was the next big thing? He's barely hanging onto the top 100 and is about to get passed by Denis Kudla, who is the same age. Jack Sock is also right in the rear view mirror.

The problem with the current generation of mens tennis (ie those born between 1984 and 1989) is that many of them focused on being champions at the junior level instead of great pros. When they moved on from the Juniors, they immersed themselves too quickly. They never really had a period where they played junior players but attempted to play professional-style tennis.

Basically this is what happened with Donald Young. I remember how hyped up he was at the junior level only to be a shitty pro player. Outside of a deep run he had at the US Open a few years ago, his career has been pretty shitty.

As much as A-Rod disappointed me by not sealing the deal late in majors, at least he was still making it to the 2nd week in most of the slams with the exception of the French for most of his career. Isner and Querrey are our best 2 American men and these guys are not even good IMO. Has Querrey ever made it to the 2nd week of any GS event? While Big John is already 28 years old and he only made it to the 2nd week of a GS event twice in his career. Funny thing about Isner is you would think he would be great on the Grass due to his powerful serve as A-Rod was but his best result at Wimbledon is the 2nd round 3 different times.

Well I just checked on Querrey and it to the round of 16 3x (twice at the US Open and once at Wimbledon). But still round of 16 is not good enough. Barring some lucky breaks I have no clue when is the next time we will see an American Men in a SF at a GS event.

Looks like after the 2nd round we will have 1 American Man remaining but at least on the women's side I think we should be able to get 3 or 4 advancing to the 3rd round.
