Would think he'd've pretty easily bettered that if he opted out, must've really liked his month in LA.

I completely forgot that he had played for the Padres two years ago. He's pretty durable and has been an above average hitter every season with a few All-Star caliber seasons mixed in.

No.

Just. No.

Carlos Santana for me.

Santana's a better hitter to begin with... and 100x cheaper. Not sold on Hosmer's 2017 being anything more than due to a spike in BABIP. His HR/FB rate was also well above his career average (22.5% vs. 14.5%), but it was 21.4% in 2016 as well. He hits too many ground balls either way though (career 2.01 GB/FB rate).

I'd much rather go after J.D. Martinez and move Hanley back to 1B if we're going to free agency to fix 1B/DH. At least Martinez is an elite hitter. For all the people bitching about the lack of power in the Sox lineup, Hosmer will do little to improve that. Martinez is hitting .300/.362/.574 with 128 home runs over the last four years, which is impressive considering he's only had one season with more than 120 games. He's been among the best power hitters in the league over that span.

If you can get JD on a four year or less deal, DD should do it.

But odds are better he'll toss him seven years.

But do you really want Hanley on the team? But I do like what you are saying.

Santana and some bat to platoon with Hanley at DH.

Take away just enough time so that option doesn't vest.
