It's near Father's Day which means the 2nd golf major of the year is upon us.

Speith, McIlroy, and current world #1 Day have all won a tourney recently, but Jordan imo does not seem to be in top form with his swing...curious to see how he fares here.

Of course Oakmont is noted to be one of the toughest golf courses in America, the members pride themselves on that moniker. Reported the greens are like ice, the rough which was cut yesterday I think is very thick. Over par is again predicted to be the winning score, but some rain is in the forecast, so it could soften the old beast up some and maybe even par could win it.

Strange that the last USO winner here was Angel Caberra...a swashbuckling, aggressive type player.

I have no clue who will win this week, but after 54 holes last weekend in Colo, no golf for me this weekend, I will be kicking back with some cold ones and watching this one.

Sorry about the blunder on the thread title..

Rain, rain go away! Second rain delay as I type this, with another cell about an hour behind this one,,,if that one drifts south a little it will be a 3rd.

What golf has been played...Andrew Landry (who?) is lighting it up...-5 thru 13 holes, big names of note...Bubba is -2 thru 10, Lee Westwood also -2 thru 9.

The US Open and Bubba Watson are about as opposite as it can get, yet for whatever reason...his best showing ever at this tourney was back in '07 - Oakmont - the 'hardest' of all US Open venues.

Bubba being Bubba is all I can guess.

When Bubba "likes" a golf course...he tends to play it well...we know he's quick to check out if he doesn't.

FWIW...a lot of people were saying, this version of Oakmont was not going to be as brutal...so far the rain has it softer, but that's supposed to be out of the area after today.

IDK to be honest...I haven't heard much from Bubba this week aside from him calling out Paula Creamer about his yardage book from '07.

Not many in the clubhouse (for the day) but an amateur has posted -1, 69 in the house.

Rough go out there so far for many. Rory finished 1st rd with + 7 (yikes) & last I checked Day was + 4 through 10.

11 players completed round 1 under par...on a "soft" golf course.

Yeah...Day finished at +6 along with Fowler. Spieth hung in there with +2.

On the flip Dustin Johnson again is looking strong...-3...notably, zero bogeys...that's big on this course. The wet rough is killing them...good they cut it before yesterday in preparation for the rain.

With no more rain in the forecast, the greens should get faster by Sunday, (they were cut and rolled after rd 1 was completed) but if they fertilize the rough like they've done in the past...even par will be in good position.

After watching DJ implode on the 72nd hole LY...it would be nice to see him hang around and face those major demons again.

I have him in a draft pool as well...and he was my 2nd pick I think...my top dog is struggling...Rory...but I'll take a win anyway I can get it...I lost the Masters so need a win to tie it up.

I had the opportunity to golf at Oakmont in 2012 courtesy of a member I know. I'm too embarrassed to tell you what I shot.

Wow...I wouldn't be...course is hard as hell...had to be fun anyway.

I have an open invite to play ATL Athletic Club (hosted a few majors) and another one @ Eastlake...and I've yet to call in those chips...maybe later this year for AAC, my boss' neighbor is a member there and a former co-worker now works at EL.

Watching DJ's group online...the greens have picked up speed since this morning...whomever plays even or better will be moving up the board I think.

Oakmont was by far the toughest course I've ever played. Those greens are scary fast.

Probably the toughest most of these tour pros have played....that's truly a feather in your cap to have played it.

I'm glad I played it but I'm not happy how I scored. I had one short putt that rolled off the green and my playing partners got a laugh out of that one.

When I'm faced with a long par 5 I go driver/driver off the deck just like Bubba!

How about little Landry, ranked somewhere around 600 currently... He's from a little town in Texas, lives in Austin now.

He's still hanging in there. If he finishes in the top five or so, he's going to make a good check.

He's in 2nd place and playing real steady golf right now and this course is a beast. He might win it going even par for the rest of the way. You just can't attack this course because you can drop 2 strokes easy on just about any hole.

This is setting up for some real drama to close it out. I wouldn't count anybody out who's within 6 strokes right now.
