I can't believe I'm about to type this but....

"Shawshank Redemption".

Believe it or not, it didn't do that well at the box office. Shot for 25M and earned 28M at the box office so, plus 3M bucks.

Won zero academy awards as it was up against "Forest Gump" that year.

Yet it's KILLED on TV. It's on just about every week on one channel or another. It's a movie you watch over and over again.

"The guards simply didn't notice. Neither did I. I mean, really...how often do you look at a man's shoe's"?

"Right about the time Rachel was spilling her little secret, a man no one had ever laid eyes on before strolled into the Maine National Bank. He had all the proper I.D. and the signature was a spot on match. Until that moment, he didn't exist. Except on paper".

BRILLIANT ending.

"I like to think that they last thing that went through the Warden's head - other than that bullet - was to wonder how the hell Andy got the best of him".

"Fletch".

Released in 1985 it starred Chevy Chase as the lead with a host of great actors - and gave Gina Davis her start at 'Larry'.

I've read all the novels by Gregory MacDonald, BTW.

In this Chevy more or less plays himself, which is kinda how the character of Fletch is written.

Great mystery/comedy.

Lincoln Lawyer. It must have been a great book, as the screenplay was awesome. Matthew McConaughey and Marissa Tomei. God, for a 47 yr old she was smokin'.

Minority Report

Catch Me If You Can

LA Confidential

Before Sunrise/Before Sunset/Before Midnight

I don't know if you could call any of those underrated, particular sunrise/sunset etc movies.

Even Minority Report was popular.

Same for Edge of Tomorrow. I think both were well received.

How about the Tom Cruise "War of the Worlds" or even Oblivion?

Same with Blade Runner. Initially it was a bomb.

But both are movie icons now...

Cruise’s WotW is one of my all time worst movies. I absolutely hated that movie. And I typically like his movies.

IMO, it has a great first half... Once they get into the basement with Tim Robbins, the movie falls apart and gets really bad.

Does anyone else have the problem of reading a book and it kills the movie made from the book? I have a real hard time letting movies stand on their own after I have read the book. I even struggle with To Kill A Mockingbird. Not saying that the movie is bad, but it is not nearly as good as the book.

That's actually what I think too. The runaway train and the ferry were pretty damm good imo. The escape from New York were good. Yeah it went downhill with Robbins and beyond.
