A lot of them are already being paid. With all the hours the players put in and all the money they make for the school, they should get something.

Only thing is, due to Title IX, if you pay the football players, you also have to play the women's tennis players, even though their sport is funded by the football and in some cases, basketball and baseball programs.

The best suggestion I've seen so far on this topic is this: Just let players make money based on their own likeness. It solves two problems -- players don't get paid from Universities but get paid for things like being in NCAA football or doing a Nike/ESPN commercial for a big game. It also solves any Title X problems, because the same could apply to a major female track athlete.

Won't work. Men would make all, or nearly all, of the money and there'd be cries of inequlity and we'd be right back to square one trying to figure out the perfect solution. When the perfect solution is...you pay men and women. Or nobody gets paid.

Great, so no one gets paid and we're still talking about this shit the next time it happens. :L

No. Like maize n blue said. Let players make money off their likeness. Title IX ain’t got shit to say about it. Female athletes can do so if they can find a market. I bet the Oklahoma softball players could find a market.

I agree that's the way it should be, but Title IX would never allow it.

Title IX, like unions, has its place but ends up being as much of a pain in the ass as it ends up helping.

I see I'm dealing with a mental midget here. I explained why you're wrong in my reply to maize n blue. If you can't or won't accept that explanation, then that's a you problem.

I understand the reasoning, asshole. I’m just pointing out that Title IX shouldn’t have anything to say about it imo. I’m aware they will. I’m just giving my opinion, prick.

Can't allow them to make money off their likeness because then programs will just use it as a recruiting tool and promise to push X amount of dollars in buying things "for their likeness" and so on.

But really, the players are paid very well already and it's a myth that they aren't. A single scholarship football player at Alabama costs the school $125,000 every year, and that's not counting the $25,000 they qualify for in free money or that they are still eligible for student loans.

There are no poor college football players. Those cars and shit they drive - actually comes from legit money they get.

Almost all college athletic programs are in the red when properly accounted for. The football teams and some hoops teams may be in the black, but its not enough to offset the whole program.

I'd love to not have any debt from college....is getting a free education, meals and housing allowance not enough? Hell Nebraska gives ALL of their student athletes free laptops when they arrive. God forbid they have to take out a 1,000 student loan a semester to go to BK. :2cents:

but the money isn't coming from federal funds. It would be private enterprise paying for their likeness.

So that would seemingly be work around.
