He was highly touted several years ago but he just isn't the same player that he used to be (doesn't make the same impact in games like he used to).

My opinion is that the Avs win this deal.

I think OV may be a little nice with this statement:

Colorado signs Smyth, Hannan - The Denver Post

He made that statement after his first couple years in the league Atari. Hannan is very good in his own end on the defensive side of the puck. Unfortunately, he cannot make an outlet pass to save his life and needs a neon sign to know where the offensive zone is. He's also gotten less and less mobile in the last 3 or 4 years.....he's also paid like a #2 defenseman when he's a average #4 now or a good #5.

According to the Leafs that was Jeff Finger.

HA! Post of the day. Nicely played Comeds.

You are very quick, my friend. I hope one day to wash that tournament from my memory.

I agree with dash here (not on who wins the trade ... just the assessment of Hannan ... to me, trade is probably a wash)

Hannans fall-off IMO has been comparable to Wade Reddens in a less costly way. Played immense minutes and was pressed by coaches for alot of years when he was young and i just think hes a very old 31

jstew has articulated what I meant to say...and I find it hard to believe that he is only 31 (he seems like he's been around a lot longer than that)

yah I just looked at mins played and for the past 8 seasons, he has pretty much been the guy on the Avs/Sharks in terms of TOI. lots of minutes.

from what the Washington posters have said they will use him as a depth guy and if that means reduced/massaged minutes they have a solid dman

so i go back to 4.5 mill for a depth guy ... yes only 1 year left but youre eating alot of room for the remainder of this year if injuries happen and you feel you need to get better at the deadline

Hannan is a really good addition to the Caps blueline. Anyone know how much if any money the Caps saved in this deal. Fleischmann makes something like 2.7 million.

saved?

Hannan wasn't getting a lot of ice time in Colorado. He's listed as seventh in ATOI amongst Avs' defensemen. That's not good when you're the highest paid blueliner on your team. Gonna be interesting to see how he fits in with the Caps' retro-Oilers system.

second in total ice time for dmen behind Liles and third on team

Yeah, but that just means he's been healthy. I imagine his ATOI will go up in Washington. They need someone who can clear the crease.

Sweet. Get that skirt wearing jackass out of here. No offense to him but he is as soft as a UVA linebacker and as clutch as Christopher Reeves' grip. I don't know much on Hannan but what I have seen I like. Can someone give me the thumbnail sketch on him.

Yikes.

you just said he wasnt getting any ice time ... he was getting the 3rd most ice time on the Avs

hes 7th in ATOI because guys like Shattenkirk and the vaunted Jonas Holos have only played in a dozen games ... lets see what happens when the sample size gets larger

How much does Hannan make this season?

I'm wondering if this deal could have any bearing on the Caps possibly resigning Semin.

Via NHL Numbers:

Fleischmann, Tomas » F COL Traded To Tue, Nov 30 $1,845,161
Fleischmann, Tomas » F WAS Traded From Tue, Nov 30 $754,839

Thanks. If Hannan is an UFA at the end of the year it could help the Caps resign Semin. I do hope he tests the market though.

Wow, I saw all the space you guys have. I hope Semin goes to Long Island :D
