Wade Phillips is the new DC for the Rams...Where exactly do Aaron Donald and Robert Quinn fit in a 3-4? Donald is the best 3T in the game, but he is not built to play the Nose or 5T. Quinn is a good pass rush end, but he's not a 5T, what are they gonna do, put him at OLB? If I were the Cowboys, I would throw out a 2nd for Quinn. For Donald? I'd give a 1st and 3rd and not blink

I think this gets a little blown out of proportion and gets "over thought" because of how much time teams spend in the nickel defense nowadays, but this will be interesting to watch what they do. I think Donald will excel in any defense. 3-4 DEs aren't really stat compilers so a drop will happen, but he'd be an absolutely fantastic one.

Not sure what you do with Quinn on early downs though. He doesn't strike me as the type to play 3-4 OLB in a base D and he is too small for 3-4 DE. Maybe Quinn becomes more of a 3rd down specialist?

One thing about Wade that is important to remember and that I always liked is that he molds his defense around his players and finds ways to use their strengths.

But if the Rams are ever dumb enough to try to trade Donald I'd be in line to chip in a few dollars...Holy crap would he transform our D...

Donald is up there on the list of best defensive players in the league. I think you're talking at least 2 first rounders.

I have to disagree on Donald, while he is the best 3T in the league, he'd get killed at 3-4 end. Typical 5T's go 6'5-6'6", 300-310(JJ Watt, Calais Campbell, Julius Peppers). At 6'1", 285, they will likely put him at NT, as Phillips did with Rat, but I'm not sure how Donald is gonna like the pounding he takes from doubles every play. His strength is his explosive quickness shooting gaps. He's so talented that you're right, he will find a way to be effective, but it was a strange DC hire considering their great 4-3 front personnel

The reason I would play Donald as a DE instead of a NT is that I don't want him to take the constant pounding that a 3-4 NT does. I am also assuming he won't be playing at 285.

He's the 2nd best defensive player in the NFL. Dallas is a top team meaning low 1st round picks. I don't know if three 1sts would get it done.

Here is where that gets tricky. From a value point of view I see the point. But after this year the Rams are going to extend him for a shit load of money. Suh gets $20M per year, $60M guaranteed and $115M contract. That was a couple years ago. So Donald gets at least that. So do you want Donald or 3 #1's AND $20-$25M per year when trying to stay under the cap???

True... no one is worth a boat load if they are an impending FA. Dallas has been so money with their 1st round picks lately that it doesnt make sense for them to give anything up. And yes... Donald is getting over $100,000,000

Which is why I think he COULD get traded. Whether he plays NT or 5T, he's gonna be out of position. Let's say he drops from a devastating 3T to a good-very good NT-DE. If you're the Rams, do you want to pay $20M/per for real good? It will depend on how he plays this year, but I don't get the hire. It would be like having Lawrence Taylor in a 3-4, and hiring a 4-3 Tampa Two DC like Rod. Circles and squares

I would trade tyrone Crawford for a 4th round pick. He is seriously not worth the contract.

The time to trade or cut Crawford was when we could spend the savings to sign someone else to replace him. And cutting him not an option once his 2017 salary became guaranteed a month or so ago, so that ship has sailed for 2017. Anyway, no one is giving up a 4th round pick for Crawford and also playing him his contract. We shouldn't even have been paying him that contract. Since he is now ours for another year he can earn his 2018 salary with a big season or be cut. Wouldn't be the first guy to suck it up for years and then have a big season when his contract is coming due...

We'd have a better chance swapping 4s with someone for Crawford. IMO his most value is to this team because of his versatility.

I'm not willing to write TC off just yet. I know the shoulder and back injuries he's had robbed him of his power the past two seasons. Instead of missing multiple weeks or going on IR, he's gutted it out. Part of that is due to the lack of talent and depth at DE and that we needed the guy to play (out of position) with just one arm. Another part of that is he was trying to justify that contract he signed. Another part is the guy loves football. I'm hoping for health for this guy, rooting for him to succeed which makes the defense and team that much better. The trade talk didn't make sense to me then and sure doesn't now.

Does not make sense to me that a team with quinn and Donald would switch to a 3-4. Donald is a freak and quinn is a beast when healthy. Cowboys did a similar thing when they drafted Claiborne and signed Carr and then installed the zone. Thankfully we drafted abuzie and woods who fit this defense. Even Lewis can play zone

in a cap world you need to play up to your contract or be replaced by someone else who will. Crawford is lucky he is on a team that at the time signed him too early, to too big of a contract and is one of the least likely teams to cut players when there is a "chance" keeping them may pay off. So he stays and likely won't play like a top 20 DL in the entire league so he will likely underperform again, but hopefully he plays well and makes us a better team because cutting him now wouldn't make any sense from a cap or Football perspective...but no one is trading for him...
