Notable forwards names under 30. I don't know which would cost the most but I picked LW's under 30:
Landeskog age 24 with about a $5.6 m cap hit
Hanzal age 29 with about $3.1 m cap hit
Duchene age 26 with about $6 m cap hit
JVR (Tor) age 27 with about a $4.25 m cap hit
Perreault age 29 with about a $3 m cap hit
E Kane age 25 with about a $5.25 m cap hit
Berglund age 28 with about a $3.7 m cap hit

Kings scouts have been spotted numerous times in Buffalo the last month, so Kane's name is circulating around.

I don't buy it however, after the Voynov/Richards/Stoll fiascos I can't see Dumbo taking a flyer on yet another talented yet disturbed player in Kane. They have been out of the spotlight for a while now in regards to players misbehaving, no need to try and stir that pot up again not matter how good a player is (and I think Kane is decent but also a bit overrated). Kane in LA would probably be an absolute nightmare considering the party life and indulgences available here - young kid + talent + money + LA + several prior issues = bad news.

Who knows who they are looking at, my money is a depth defender. Dumbo loves dealing with Buffalo and Philadelphia so look there first.

I would like JVR out of that list, extremely doubtful....but that would be my pick

Not exactly shocking, but I am thinking the most valuable trade commodities this year will be the Expansion-Draft Exempt D-men. At least those who have proven themselves, or projected to be, NHL regulars.

Carolina has 3 of them. Ducks have a couple. Although to a lesser degree, at least Kings have Gravel, and hopefully LaDue falls into that category by end of season. I'm sure there are few more out there.

I wouldn't mind grabbing Sharp, had some concussion problems but is a proven scorer and would probably like to prove he has something left

Kings gave Gilbert to the Caps for nothing.
Ok if the caps win 2 playoff rounds and Gilbert plays in more than half of those games Kings gets 5th round pick.
Otherwise nothing

They must really intent on LaDue developing into a decent right side option on Defense.

Just read Kings are retaining 20% of Gilbert salary.
So they are paying someone to take him and getting nothing back.

It's only $280,000 so it's not that big a deal, Dumbo has eaten far worse salaries over the years (Richards, Preissing, Nagy, etc.). Dumbo essentially bought a 5th round pick for cash, can't see the Caps not winning at least 2 rounds. Considering Gilbert was signed as a UFA and no assets were spent acquiring him it's not a bad deal - it gets Gilbert off the roster, clears up a contract spot for LA and the Kings don't have to worry about what to do with him for the ED.

Speaking of free agent signings, the Kings went for the value route last summer because of the cap situation signing Gilbert, Latta, Trotman, Zatkoff and Purcell. Not a damn one of them have worked out.

Batter up!

=)~~

Only if the caps make the eastern finals AND Gilbert plays in half the postseason games. Nor a forgone conclusion.

I can easily see Washington not winning 2 rounds because their division is murderous this year. Not any slight against them, because I can also see them winning the cup, but they will almost 100% face Pittsburgh again in the second round.

The way it stands right now, with NY Rangers locked into that 1st Wild Card, Montreal also has its work cutout for it facing the top Wild Card from the Metropolitan (whoever it ends up being out of likely NY Rangers/Columbus BJ's/Pittsburgh Penguins). The ideal situation for the Capitals is to have the Pens fall to the Wild Card and have them get moved over to the other Atlantic Division for the first two rounds.

I shouldn't say "100% face Pittsburgh" because the standing are close with those 3 teams, but I have a hard time believing Pitt won't end up in that 2nd or 3rd spot, and that they won't be the favorite to advance against either Columbus or NY Rangers.

I bet LA doesn't get a 5th pick, so essentially they are just tying up 280k, its not like they really ever gave him a shot
