Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Dodgers and Cubs were among the teams scouting Yu Darvish's start against the Rays on Friday.

They had to come away impressed with what they saw after Darvish whiffed 12 over eight innings of three-run baseball. He's one of the top arms rumored to be available prior to the trade deadline, so expect the action surrounding him to heat up in the coming days.:suds:

giants season is saved:suds:

Pablo Sandoval - 3B - Giants
Giants signed INF Pablo Sandoval to a minor league contract.

The Red Sox granted his official release on Friday and now Sandoval returns to the one place he has had considerable big league success. It shouldn't be long before he's an option for the Giants.

Does that say more about the Giants or Sandoval?

Royals acquired RHPs Trevor Cahill and Brandon Maurer and LHP Ryan Buchter from the Padres in exchange for LHPs Matt Strahm and Travis Wood and INF Esteury Ruiz.

Robert Murray of FanRag Sports first reported the deal and it is now official. Cahill has experienced a big bounce-back season in 2017, posting a 3.69 ERA and 72/24 K/BB ratio over 61 innings. He'll give the Royals some more reliable innings out of the back-end of their rotation. Meanwhile, Maurer and Buchter will supplement Kansas City's relief corps.

For real this time: Twins get Jaime Garcia
4926.jpg

Twins acquired LHP Jaime Garcia, C Anthony Recker and cash considerations from the Braves in exchange for RHP Huascar Ynoa.

The two sides tentatively agreed to a trade last week, but it was nixed due to physical concerns with Nick Burdi (elbow), who had been slated to go to Atlanta in the deal. Garcia has been up-and-down this season, posting a 4.30 ERA and 85/41 K/BB ratio over 113 innings, but he should offer Minnesota more reliable work at the back of their rotation.:suds:

Anthony Recker would be a cool name if he could actually hit. Ynoa's a good lottery ticket for the Braves.

meh. Nunez is a good bench piece, but I'd like to see who the Sox gave up. At least they seem to be committed to Devers.

ed Sox acquired INF/OF Eduardo Nunez from the Giants for RHP Shaun Anderson and RHP Gregory Santos.

Nunez had a double, two RBI, and two runs scored for the Giants on Tuesday night against the Pirates before getting lifted in the bottom of the fifth inning. Shortly thereafter, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal broke word of the trade to Boston. Nunez has been hitting well lately and can play a variety of positions for the Red Sox, but look for top prospect Rafael Devers to continue getting most of the starts at third base. Nunez, a 30-year-old impending free agent, will work in more of a utility role:suds:

Giants acquired RHP Shaun Anderson and RHP Gregory Santos from the Red Sox for 3B Eduardo Nunez.

Anderson was Boston's third-round pick in 2016 and looks like a pretty good get for San Francisco in this deal. The 22-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 3.42 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 85/29 K/BB ratio in 97 1/3 innings this season between Low-A Greenville and High-A Salem. Santos, at 17 years old, is much more of a project.:suds:

Do you follow the farm at all? Do you have anything to add about Anderson or Santos?

Shaun Anderson | SoxProspects.com

He's interesting, but I'm a lot happier the Sox gave him up as opposed to someone like Bryan Mata or Mike Shawaryn. As for Santos, he's a 17-year-old in the DSL. SoxProspects doesn't have a scouting report on him.

Neshek has been a boss this year, surprising the Rockies gave up so little but with him being a FA next year it makes sense for Philly to try and get something for him.

With the Giants so far back I am all in on the Rockies, hope they win the whole thing.

Really though, anyone but the Dodgers or Cubs again would be acceptable.
