Athletics signed 1B Chris Carter to a minor league contract.

The Rangers were also reportedly intrigued by Carter, who was released by the Yankees on July 10. The slugger struggled mightily during his time in the Bronx, hitting just .201/.284/.370 with eight homers in 208 plate appearances. He will report to Triple-A Nashville.:suds:

Good for him, nice guy, just a brutal guy to watch hit, especially in big spots, which seem to always find him as a Yankee

Since it feels like the Sox are hoping to compete in 2020, when Kahnle would still be under control, kind of surprised they are dealing him. But relievers aren't that hard to replace I guess.
Trading high and relievers are so weird. Studs one yr and bums the next. Rarely is their guys that are consistent in those roles. I don't mind it.

Aaron Blair was scratched from his scheduled start Thursday for Triple-A Gwinnett.

Per SB Nation's Chris Cotillo, Blair is on his way to Los Angeles to replace tomorrow's scheduled starter Jaime Garcia, who should be a Minnesota Twin by the end of the night. Blair spent a few days with the Braves in April but didn't appear in any games. The 25-year-old has compiled a 4.92 ERA over 17 starts for Gwinnett this season.:suds:

Maybe it's just me, but Blair has been pretty underwhelming over the last few years.

Mariners acquired LHP Marco Gonzales from the Cardinals in exchange for OF Tyler O'Neill.

A former first-round pick, Gonzales has been excellent in his first season back from Tommy John surgery, posting a 2.78 ERA and 64/17 K/BB ratio over 74 1/3 innings in the minors. The left-hander is a high-floor, low-ceiling type player who should be a solid mid- to back-end of the rotation option for the Mariners. It shouldn't be long before he gets a shot for them in the majors.:suds:

Cardinals acquired OF Tyler O'Neill from the Mariners in exchange for LHP Marco Gonzales.

O'Neill was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 38 prospect in baseball coming into the season. His standing has dropped a bit with a .244/.328/.479 showing so far in his first taste of Triple-A, but he's still cracked 19 homers and is among the better power-hitting prospects in the game. The Cards currently have a glut of outfielders, so it's hard to see O'Neill contributing in 2017. However, he's an interesting prospect.:suds:

Not really a rumor but may affect this deadline:

Brian Cashman said in an interview that the Yankees WILL fall under the luxury tax threshold ($195 Million) next season, resetting their clock IF they don't add any significant payroll. So that will likely rule them out of any big money players over the next 10 days and this winter.
