I'm having trouble caring about this year's playoffs, it's been so long since the Giants made them but got knocked out of them, way back in 2003 (fuckin' Marlins). Either they missed them entirely or they won it all for a long way back. Until this year. So I'm kinda bummed out there.

BUT

My wife and I started talking about the 2010 run, and how special it was even vs the later ones, and how improbable, and then I had to get this link:

2010 San Francisco Giants Batting, Pitching, & Fielding Statistics | Baseball-Reference.com

I mean, how did that team do it? What a bunch of spare parts...Huff, Burrell, Renteria, Uribe, Torres?

But then one looks at this: 2010 San Francisco Giants Pitching Statistics | Baseball-Reference.com

And goes ooooh, right. Historic pitching. Peak Timmy (playoffs only, actually had the lowest ERA+ of the main 4), peaking Cain, Sanchez of course career year, Bum already solid...and then The Beard and the Core 4 making a lockdown pen.

And then I smile. That shit happened and we were right there.

So, go Indians! Their wait has been a little longer than ours, more relatable than the 108 boys.

The '10 offense that went into the playoffs was actually decent. The year-long numbers of that team were shit, but that is misleading due to all the changes that were made to the team that year.

That said, that pitching staff, top to bottom, was one of the best in the history of the game.

i agree, really don't care who wins this series. promises to be good baseball, but...

having lived through cleveland's trolling in the nba finals last year, it's tough to pull for that 'cleveland against the world' fanbase...

our seats are next to the visitor friends and family section at att and cubbie fans are more in-your-face obnoxious than just about any other fan base. they've acted entitled all year and again it's tough to pull for them. funny, i've never detected too much animosity at Wrigley, maybe it's just the travelling fans.

also, feeling somewhat left out of the excitement looking out my my window at the quiet streets in sf and missing the ws excitement.

Winner of game 1 has won the last 6 WS in a row....and 24 of the last 28. Cubs got some work to do.

For the teams alone, I found myself rooting for the Indians because I always like to root for a good underdog.

Taking the fans and history into account.... that's where it gets mucky. Cub fans are terrible, Cleveland fans are terrible, the media boner for the Cubs is annoying and will be annoying if they win, but Cleveland winning 2 major titles in the same year feels weird. BUT, it's easy to ignore all that stuff.

i just can't get past how insufferable either fanbase will become with a win. and the media sucking them off will be intolerable. should be good baseball, too bad they both can't lose

In 2010, Edgar Renteria went from basically being the worst, most overpaid player in the league to being arguably the best. That alone went a long way.

We are still the team of the decade, and there's really not a close second. Still time on the clock of course, but if the decade ended after this WS? We still got this. If we can get one more ring somehow by 2019 (3 more to go) it'll be Yankee-esque

It was 6 years ago today that the drought ended! What an amazing, glorious day that was in 2010.

Rajai Davis looking good.

Zobrist looking like the MVP if the Chubs hang on

Weren't we interested in Zobrist at one point? What a difference maker.
Both at the deadline last year AND in the FA market this past off-season. I think they also made a play for him in '14 when the Rays were shopping him.
