This seems more legit to me, can't think of too many games that had more national interest than the USC Texas game.

College football is truly in it's golden age. As a kid I was happy to just see the one game a week and have someone read the final scores of all the other games when the featured game was over.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would ever come down to what it is today. If you play your cards right, you can actually see more games on the opening 5 day weekend over Labor Day, than I once saw in a whole season.

The oldest football game is the 1991 Colorado Notre Dame game from one of those lists.

So I googled most watched TV episodes of all time, I just wanted to know TV shows were in the time frame must be 1991 to 2018. Only two episodes appeared during that time.

Most watched TV episodes of all time 1991 to 2018

1998 Sienfeld 40.5 million
1993 Cheers 42.4 million

The Top 20 episodes of all time range
1. 1983 Mash 50.15 million
20. 1972 All in the Family 25.2 million

This is why networks pay for football. People watch it. For three plus hours, not just 30 minutes.

When I was 14 we were living up North where the CBS affiliate was independent and one Saturday they decided to show The Cat From Outer Space instead of Alabama-Tennessee...I was ready to spit nails. Luckily one of my friends had one of those giant satellite dishes, so only missed the first half.

New Year's Day used to involve 5 tv's...now I watch more games on a typical Saturday.
