This is a tough one to me. Heilmann got on base at a better clip, but did not have the base running ability that Bonds had. While Heilmann had the better slugging%, he did not have the overall pop in his bat that Bonds had. Right now my vote goes to Heilmann, but I would change it with a good argument.

BA's were elevated in Heilmann's era, but he won four batting titles, meaning he was also a stud relative to his peers. Moreover, he beat out Ty Cobb for a batting title 2x. Bonds has the superior power numbers and was a good defender, but he also gets a negative hit for striking out a crapload.

Heilman had 14 120 OPS+ seasons vs 9 for Bonds. However, Bonds had a 119, 119 and 116, so while Heilman has him beat here, it is really too close to call.

However, looking at 140 seasons, Heilman wins 9-3.

Bonds had a shit-ton more HRs and SBs (and he was a legit SB threat, having almost a 3/1 ratio). But Heilman had a higher career OBP and SLG.

While this is a close one, I gotta go with Heilman. He was on base at a more elite level and just because he couldn't hit it out didn't mean he was Ichiro out there. Dude had pop.

I have a rule, when in doubt go with the player with more PAs... Heilman has 900 more PAs, which makes me take him...
