Yes I know Carew played more games at 1b, but it was only 54 more and like Ernie Banks is considered a SS Carew will always be in the 2B discussiion for me.

I didn't realize that Carew made the All Star team in every season he played except for one (his last). That's 18 All Star appearances in 19 seasons in the league. I'm pretty sure that is the highest percentage ever. Only guy that I think would be close was Ted Williams who made it in 17/18 seasons.

this is what bothers me about WAR, players like Larry Doyle are ranked as a top 32 2B... He is only there because he played long and he played in a weak era... But nothing about his career is ANY good...

If you completely ignore 1976 and after, Careww was still a beast. 4 consecutive batting titles (important at the time), 3 times top 10 MVP, 5 120 OPS+ seasons...

Yea, he had an 8 year stretch where he averaged a .348 AVG and 148 OPS+, and even outside of that stretch he was quite good.

This one is a landslide, Carew was the best hitter of the 70's... Oh and he's my all time favorite player... :suds:

Doyle didn't play long at all. He only played 14 seasons (only 12 more than 100 games). Top 10 in BA five times, top 10 in OBP five times, top 10 in slugging seven times, top 10 in OPS six times, seven times top 10 in OPS+, top 10 in offensive WAR 6 times. Career .290 BA with a .357 OBP, and 126 OPS+. None of that is any good?
