Not a fan of standing up for michigan, but having them 5 spots behind Georgia is baseless. Georgia hasn't even come close to sniffing a CFP berth, finishing the CFP rankings 13th, UR, and UR. I'd say Iowa, Houston, and Oklahoma State should also be ranked ahead of them. Hell, even Florida.
Michigan was arguably a 4 point conversion call away from a CFB playoff birth this year. Better than a lot of programs at this point in its short history. But I have no problem with the ranking really.

Fact:

In an all Big 10 playoff, Michigan would have been the 4 seed.

But yeah, so close...

If I'm looking at things objectively? I'm definitely taking the team that's been ranked in or near the top 10 in two of three years (two years running), especially given the extreme disparity in elite opponents, over the team that can only finish ranked once, despite playing in a super weak division devoid of elite opponents.

Guess we'll have to disagree. Although, I think you're looking at it with your B1G glasses on. Hell even Michigan fans are fine with where they're ranked in this ranking, just looking at what some of them have said.

You might have a point if not for the fact I also said Iowa, Houston, and Oklahoma State should also be ranked ahead of them, and even Florida. The michigan of the last two years is a far better representation of them as a program, obviously. You're choosing to only focus on 1 year's record and ignore all other factors. That's it.

Oklahoma State and Florida have more of a case then Michigan does. I even said earlier I'd be okay flipping Florida and UGA, but still keeping them ahead of Houston and Boise State.

I'm pretty obviously not just focusing on one season. Not sure what makes you say that?

I think its pretty fair where they are considering they have a season in that span where they finished 4-8. 21st in winning % among P5 teams. I did take into account they have a CFP win. If they would have won it in 2014 I would have had them 3rd more than likely. That's what a title will do for you.

So Oregon with an overall 3 year run of 26-14 a playoff appearance and win and a NCG appearance is behind 28-12 Utah with no Play off appearances, 28-10 TCU with no appearances, 30-10 Stanford and no appearances, is 5 spots behind 26-13 Michigan State with 1 appearance and loss? and 33-7 (better overall record) Florida state (same amount of play off appearances and lost to Oregon)

so explain the difference between Oregon and Michigan State

actually I refer you back to my first post in this thread many pages ago

2016's are comparable
Our 2014 was much better than your 2015.
11-2 > 9-4

11-2 > 9-4

3 year span same win total but Oregon has 1 more loss (NCG)
but consider Oregon won their play off game and didn't suffer the worst loss of all playoff games played to date.

Its minimal. One is 7th. The other is 11th. I'm basically giving Michigan State more credit for being more consistent in 2014 & 2015 than what Oregon was. 2016 is basically a wash.

7th and 8th is minimal
5 places with basically the same overall record but Oregons actual playoff resume is better is favoritism and bias
