But, only 8 have occupied the 12 available spots in the CFP thus far...with Bama, tOSU and Clem occupying over half of those 12 with 7. By conference, the B1G has 3 slots, SEC 3 slots, ACC 3 slots, PAC 12 2 slots and Big 12 1 slot.

That's partly why I have Michigan State, Oregon and Washington where I do because of them playing in the CFP, despite not having a winning % that would correlate to where they are ranked.

I figured as much. And 2014 boosted TCU and Baylor up further than they are presently. But, with three years of data it is probably pretty close. Some trending up, others down.

After the first five, person could rank the next several in nearly any order and be able to justify it. Not really a lot of difference in that period of time between Wisky, Stanford, USC, Utah, etal.

Not a fan of standing up for michigan, but having them 5 spots behind Georgia is baseless. Georgia hasn't even come close to sniffing a CFP berth, finishing the CFP rankings 13th, UR, and UR. I'd say Iowa, Houston, and Oklahoma State should also be ranked ahead of them. Hell, even Florida.

Georgia at 15 is WAY too high.

They had a top 10 season that first season of the playoffs, but not ranked at all the last two seasons.

So Oregon with an overall 3 year run of 26-14 a playoff appearance and win and a NCG appearance is behind 28-12 Utah with no Play off appearances, 28-10 TCU with no appearances, 30-10 Stanford and no appearances, is 5 spots behind 26-13 Michigan State with 1 appearance and loss? and 33-7 (better overall record) Florida state (same amount of play off appearances and lost to Oregon)

Oregon, Washington, Michigan State, Oklahoma and Florida State all have one CFP appearance. If that is the only qualification criteria @ericd7633 used, then yeah, they should all be ahead of Wisky, Stanford, TCU, etal. But, I don't think that was his sole criteria.

That's why I included records and if they won or lost their Playoff games.

The middle was tough. Georgia has a better win %, more wins, has finished higher ranked at the end of the year than any Michigan team has, and doesn't have a season below .500.

They finished 24th in the coaches poll in 2015. 8-5 isn't a great record, but if its your worst record in the 3 year time frame, that's pretty damn good/consistent.

Back end of the poll maybe, but not top 15 IMO, especially since Florida has won the East in two of those seasons and is 3-0 against Georgia since the CFP started, and you have them ranked below Georgia.

I can see why putting Florida ahead of UGA makes sense. UGA does have a better winning %, but 2 of those losses are because they played an extra game against Bama. You could flop them and I'd be fine with that. But I don't think I'd drop them below Iowa/Michigan.

3 years is a lot of data to try and manage in my head for a whole playoff era top25.

But as far as rating teams based on how they've done in the playoffs thus far:

1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Ohio St
4. Oregon
5. Florida St
6. Oklahoma
7. Washington
8. Michigan St
