Teams tend to avoid throwing in Sherman's direction, so Shead sees quite a bit more action. The more action you see as a corner, the more chances you have to get burned. It's been that way for every corner opposite of Sherman ever since the league's offensive coordinators and quarterbacks figured out that throwing the ball in Sherman's direction too often was likely to lead to bad things for their offense. I'm not opposed to adding depth/competition at cornerback through the draft, but I don't think the need there is more pressing than it is on the offensive line.

CB needs to be a priority imo... Our depth isn't as good as we thought it was... We need to begin grooming another CB because Sherman isn't getting any younger... Plus, Shead and Lang aren't getting the job done...

I would say tackle because this defense as a whole when everyone is healthy is great I wouldnt worry that shead gets burned a few plays here and there. this offense needs work all over the place we need some help at tackle and possibly another RB because with all these injuries the backfield has been a joke all season

Interior D-Line (DT) and OT should be the first 2 rounds. S/CB and RB should be rounds 3-6.

Seattle's Interior D-Line is a problem. The reason the 2013 defense was so dominant was because Bennett played DT quite a bit but we also had McDaniel and some decent pass rushing HAM on the interior. Avril/Bennett are BLOWING around OTs but QBs just step up in the pocket and have all freaking day because our DTs are run specialists and are pathetic at pass rushing.

OT is no surprise. Fant may be able to do something at RT, but he's been a HUGE liability as LT. Arizona just completely schooled the guy. I know Fant wasn't our starting LT, but even who we were going in with wasn't pretty.

we really just need to focus on the OL and run game, with DL as a secondary need that we might pick in the 1st if someone is there that we cant pass up. i have no idea who that would be though, at this point.

If we can somehow get a joe thomas or joe staley with our 2nd rounder, i would not be opposed to taking a RB if a stud is available at out #1. normally i would not want a RB round 1, but this team really is built with a NEED for a stud at RB.

if we arent able to get a T in a trade, then we basically have to take an OT with our first barring a stud DT dropping to us.

Tackle, and then whatever.

The problem with that is that at this point it's expected to be a very weak draft for tackles, with only as many as 3 being considered 1st rounders (yes it changes). If the Hawks get tunnel vision on tackle they could be once again stuck drafting a 3rd round talent in the 1st, when they could fill other holes that are needs as well. Personally, I would like to pick someone who will be a first round talent than throw the pick away for another player who just doesn't live up to his draft spot.

I'm kind've surprised that no one mentioned OLB as a possible target - since our 3rd LB has been MIA most of the season. I don't care which of the 4 have been playing there, there really hasn't been much to be excited about.

Right now my short list to look into at the end of the season is:

Christian McCaffrey, RB Stanford
Ryan Ramcyk, OT Wisconsin
Takkarist McKinley, OLB UCLA
Charles Harris, DE Missouri
Garett Bolles, OT Utah
DeMarcus Walker, DE FSU

I'll look into more, but gotta start somewhere. Long way til draft day - and there's no telling right now where we'll be picking.

This is what I was wondering about as well. I really don't follow the college game at all so I really don't know what is available but we aren't going to get a high pick anyway. I have doubts there will be a blue chip pick left for us at LT and I always question drafting strictly based on need. The draft is a crap shoot at best most of the time. How many first rounders have we seen completely fizzle out or not be relevant in the first place. Now, you can't always hit the jackpot with later picks but it seems that the scouting staff and management of this team have been hitting a lot of home runs over the last few years. I just want them to keep drafting the best athletes they can and if it's in an area that we need help, that's a bonus. I think the other thing to consider is that every GM in the league that needs O-linemen will be grabbing the best guys. Everyone wants what Dallas has.

The thing is that despite having what appears to be a lot of cap space at $37 million, the Hawks are only 20th in the NFL in cap space for 2017. Hell, Cleveland has $110 million they can spend this offseason! In theory we have the money to pay for a high priced FA OLman or two - but in reality, we don't have the space to get into a bidding war with most of the NFL. Not to mention that we will have other needs to fill as well as OL.

1) DeShawn Shead will be a RFA. A tender will cost at least $1.6 million, but an extension would probably cost us as much as Lane's $5 million per season. If we let him walk - Lane is the next likely starting CB, and his season was so bad this year, I don't think that'll end well.

2) Mike Morgan (UFA) and Brock Coyle (RFA) both have expiring contracts, and would probably both require at least $1 million +, with Coyle costing at least $1.6 million if tendered. If both are allowed to walk, then Kevin Pierre-Louis will be the one in line to start OLB unless one is targeted in the draft.

3) Steven Hauschka is up for a new contract. Imagine this will take at least $3 million to complete.

4) Kelcie McCray (UFA) and Steven Terrell (RFA) are both up for new contracts. If one or both are let walk - the Hawks will have to invest in back up safeties somewhere.

5) Tony McDaniel will require at least $1 million to re-sign, if he is re-signed.

So, there's at least $10 million in contracts if we are to retain our own free agent, as well as an additional $5 million for draft (possibly more) and $5 million in reserve for in season signings. That leaves Seattle with $17 million to spend on FAs, and most top OLinemen would be costing near $10 per season by themselves. I just don't see them making a huge splash for a FA OLman, if they bring in a FA it'll be more of what we saw this year (though maybe a prove it 1 year deal with Kalil out of Minny, but still unlikely). I agree it would be nice, but I just don't see it happening.

Im not getting my hopes up, but zeitler does know wilson from the one year they played together at wisconsin.

I would love to throw down money on him, but im fully expecting we go into next year with the same garbage at OL. Maybe we have a new RT in our 1st round pick at best

That 37 mil, is it current cap or next years projection cap with the 10 mil increase?

Just the projected amount of $168 million. I have no concrete numbers on next year's cap - so for the moment, I am using that.
