What matters is what he did on the field that year. He carried the team because McElroy could barely complete passes. In the NC game we attempted a total of like 8 passes.

And in terms of what he did on the field, over 1000 of his yards that year came after contact. Meaning he worked for them, it wasn't just holes being opened up for him.

Which has apparently continued into the NFL. He averaged 3.1 yards per carry....after contact.

Mark the Spot: Saints' Ingram among league best in yards after contact

And let's not pretend like the 2009 team was the same kind of teams talent wise that we have now. That was before all the #1 recruiting classes.

I am not slamming the guy. I wish Texas had a position on offense where people said "it's the system". The top 3 rushers on Bama ran for 6.12, 5.2, and 6.23 yards per that year. McElroy was banged up for the NC game (shoulder I believe). When Colt went down Bama went conservative, some would say too conservative. 51 rushes vs 12 passes (too lazy to take sacks out). They were happy to wear that Texas defense out. Richardson went 19 for 109 and 5.74 per, compared to 22 for 116 and 5.27 per. I believe it is fair to say the RBs carried the team.

Behind Colt McCoy tells you all you need to know about the award.

One of the most dominant performances at DT in CFB history. Hell, one of the most dominant at any position.

I remember this like it was yesterday. UC fans were on the edge of their seats from this Suh performance. One second away from the national championship.

Don't disagree about going conservative in that game, but I really don't care for the "lineman did all the work" type arguments.

There isn't a RB out there who goes anywhere without a good line. Everyone talks about Barry Sanders and for some reason they claim he did it behind awful lines, but Detroit lineman were making it to the pro-bowl all the time. Nevermind all the negative plays.

Plus it's impossible to equate for such things, other than "I think". Doesn't change what he did on the field IMO.

Damn right he should have. I watched those lineman try to block that guy, it was friggin impossible. He was a hoss. After that game, I'd have given the trophy to him, no doubt about it.

But I'm an old line DL/OL guy. I really appreciate a player like him. He was a killer.

Because he's been annointed Urban Meyer/Nick Saban quality. Just like Charlie Strong was.

It's Tejas en sech.

This is misleading. Strong was getting questioned from the start. At best the press was fair, with a good balance of good and bad. He was called a good DC by 1 of the biggest boosters. Write ups about how Texas HS coaches did not like him. I remember being surprised by hoe much negative press he gotten, considering what a good story he had to tell. 1st African American coach at Texas, came from nothing, worked his way up the ladder. Herman' s story is far less interesting and endearing, but the hype is amazing. It is obvious that one of Herman's strength is dealing with the media.

But it is still amusing.

Especially to a fan base that went through Bill Callahan. That fuck face.

No need for a novel. If you don't get the joke I can't help you.

2009? I can't even remember 2009, let alone the season. Herman clearly isn't a bowler..

I remember chugging half a bottle of tequila and throwing chairs off of the deck.

Agree. He was easily the best and most dominating player in football that year.

That game was cringe-worthy as a Texas fan-that team had a number of shortcomings for sure. They won games that season mainly because Colt McCoy and Shipley were magic. Throw in a pretty tough defense, and viola-playing for a National Championship.

But that OL had their struggles, and Suh pretty much destroyed them.

At least that's how I remember it-could be wrong. Dont remember a whole lot about that game, other than Suh throwing Texas lineman aside like rag dolls.

I remember my buddy punting a box of Christmas lights across the room and storming out onto 16th St screaming. It was funny looking back on it, but that night sucked.

Yep there was a lot of profanity laced screaming out into the night. One of us punched a dent in the garage door.
