I think the increased 7 on 7 has something to do with it too. Skill players improve and defenders get more time covering, but not hitting. Putting defenders in a mind set not to hit and tackle could affect things if you think about it.
100% correct IMHO. I've said the same thing for a while now. During 7 on 7 they just touch 'em down instead of bringing them to the ground. It carries over to the fall. The 7 on 7 improves their covering them and getting to them but not bringing them to the ground.

Well the NFL doesn't agree, 4 of the top 10 picks were from Texas. Problem for the horns is none of them attended school in Austin.

With the resources and money, obviously. But then you gotta deal with those boosters.

No different than dealing with OU boosters. If the coach doesn't win, any blue blood program's boosters are going to be a problem. I guess you don't remember OU's boosters running John Blake out of town after only 3 years? It was pretty ugly.....Hell, if you remember at Disney, the only 3 Bama posters at the time before the bandwagoners came out of the woodwork were already suggesting that maybe Saban wasn't the right hire after all when he lost to ULM at home.

Boosters are a potential problem at every major school. They aren't a problem at Bama, because they are winning. They are a problem at Texas, because they are not. Most are smart business men, but they act like Dad's on a little league tram when it comes to their chosen school

EXACTLY ^^^^ It's hilarious when I see people comment how UT's boosters are the worst in the world and why would any coach want to put up with that. If you don't win, the boosters will be a problem anywhere. USC's boosters had Kiffin fired at LAX after ASU dropped 60 + pts on them in Tempe. Let me repeat, he was fired at the airport. Didn't KU fire Turner Gill after only 2 years and that's at KU where they give zero fucks about football! LSU's boosters ran Miles out of town and he went 8-4 his last year. Again, you don't win and the boosters become a major problem, unless you're at a shit school like TTECH where they don't care about winning or losing, just as long as your head coach is good looking and played football there.

Boosters are like shareholders in a company. The majority of the time they just ride along watching the CEO and the Board of Directors run the show even if the company's performance is suffering. But if things get too bad, the shareholders can rebel and force out the BOD and/or the CEO to stop a shit show. Same thing with universities: the coach and AD + the President run things until a situation gets so fucked up the people who have the ultimate power decide to force a change. Athletic programs are nothing without large amounts of money coming in from small donors, large donors and ticket buyers. Never forget that the ultimate power lies with those people who pay the bills. Don't disparage them for rarely taking matters into their own hands and forcing changes in senior leadership when that leadership has failed them.

Don't get upset. Many are smart businessmen and think they can run any business. That includes a football team, which they generally over-estimate their knowledge on the subject. Plus it is not like a shareholder. There are emotional ties at the university level, which tends to cloud judgement.

I'm not upset. What I was saying is they have the power/right/obligation to step in when things get too bad. I was one of a lot of OU supporters who felt Bob Stoops had reached his "sell by" date years ago. But no one was seriously contemplating forcing a change because it would have been a stupid move. Things were no longer great at Oklahoma but they were still good. But at Texas the boosters were justifiably P.O.'d that changes had to be made. Not all donors are business people but the vast majority of them at any school want the best for their favorite team and have common sense. People rarely get emotionally involved owning stock in a company (unless your job is also at that company) but things like family, friends, where you went to school, what branch of the military you served in, etc. always mean more because you are invested in them not only with your money but your head and your heart. The smart AD's and Presidents never forget that.

Well, last year beat what was supposed to be a top 10 Notre Dame team. This they lost to what was supposed to be a rebuilding Maryland team, so I have no idea
