Report: Tom Coughlin expected to resign as head coach of Giants after 12 years

Regardless of the Giants record, is this just time for Tom to step away? We know he's been able to win it all with these guys even with mediocre regular season records, but is coach Tom the guy to blame at this point?

12 years is a major run, and I have some serious respect for the guy. I hope this wasn't a "resign or we're firing you" situation. He's earned more than that IMO.

I would take him to coach the Rams in a heartbeat.

Because fuck Jeff Fischer, am I right?!

Seriously though, how the hell do the Rams only look like a playoff team twice a year, when they play the Hawks?!

He's been on the hot seat at least 5 times in his career, including in at least one of his Superbowl years. This time it got him.

I think he might have been able to save his job had he not let his best player run wild and embarrass himself and the team. Coughlin has always been a discipline guy, where was it with Beckham?

Superbowl rings allow for some ugly dips in between. The Giants organization is old school, patient...but they probably were in sync with Coughlin's thinking.

I think he's known for a while this was it...probably didn't care enough to make it bigger deal to be honest.

Right, but my point is that he's on "the hot seat" almost every year and, for two of those years, that hot seat has a Lombardi trophy sitting on it. Doesn't that buy a coach some leniency, especially when this is his modus operandi?

There's nothing here that says Tom needs to resign. This is how the Giants have succeeded lately. If he's going out, let him go out; Don't push the guy out.

They're gonna give him the option to resign? He should have been fired after that Beckham debacle. The dude is like 70. It's time for him to go anyways. The Giants also need to start looking into a new QB.

I don't think that guy has ever taken a vacation. If he doesn't get another head coaching job, I guarantee you he stays in the game some other way as a front office guy. He's a lifer.

Tom made his mark on the game. Old enough to quit. Too good to be shown the door. Who is going to replace him? I think he is tired of it.....

Eli just had the best year of his career. He still has a few good years left.

Tom has poured his heart into this league... Love the passion and achievements he's been able to accomplish... He made Jacksonville a competitive team at one point and then went on to do a great job w/ the Giants...

But the sun does set and it's time for Tom to set as well... He's had a great career, now go enjoy your family and grand babies...

Lot's of respect for Coughlin, he outwitted BB twice in the big game, and seems to save his savvy for those big games. In both of those years, Giants had awesome playoff runs. He's getting pretty old, maybe it's time? But .. they've been saying this for some time now. I believe he made more good than bad decisions. HOF material?

The Giants won 2 Super Bowls under him. Gotta give him respect for that. Outside of those 2 seasons they didn't win a playoff game and were in precious few.
