It's about time we started this. People said we shouldn't take him seriously until he faced some real competition. Well, 15 carries for 193 yards and 2 TDs on Arizona State fits the bill. He's a home run threat every time he touches the ball, with at least a 65 yard run in every game. He's up to 12.9 YPC after getting 10.0 last year. He's on track to break the NCAA career YPC record.

Simply put, he's a beast. Certainly, he is the best running back in America. He deserves to be in the Heisman talk, and if he returns next year, he should be the favorite.

I completely agree that he should be a contender for the Heisman. I hope people won't downgrade him because he's not "the guy."

Just a sophomore too.

Yeah, but he's in his third year. It's why i'm sort of glad he hasn't blown up yet. I really hope he comes back next year. I feel like I can say with near absolute certainty that a healthy Gordon doesn't come back for 2015. He's already earning talk as a potential first round pick.

It's a little soon to claim he's "certainly" the best.

He has the talent and the line, but won't have the carries or the wins to win the Heisman.

Melvin Gordon 2nd best in the country. I hit to go with Kadeem Carey as the best.

The hype is beginning:

Here is an SI-affiliated website with an article about how he is a potential Heisman winner.

Here is Rotoworld (NBC affiliated site) saying he is the best draft-eligible back.

It has a chance to go into overdrive with a big game against Ohio State next week.

Quietly, a certain somebody has climbed into 5th on ESPN's Heisman Watch...

He likely won't make a ton of Heisman noise because of the year the top four are having, but he has to be the favorite for the Doak Walker Award.

He looks like a mediocre RB vs solid run D's. He won't make the top 5 at the end of the year.
