Tar Heels take the series against dook. So far the biggest problem with the Heels is the weather. They moved their series with UCLA down to Orlando, the series against Rhode Island had to be played in Florence, SC, our mid-week game against St. Johns was cancelled and a mid-week tilt against Winthrop postponed indefinitely.

Now we've lost to Mich. St. and sit @ 8-7 with a double header against ND scheduled for today, followed by a 1 more against them tomorrow.

With almost all freshmen and sophs, I'm surprised to see how well OR St has played so far. They made late inning pitching mistakes (bullpen pitchers), and a couple dropped fly balls have resulted in extended innings, costing them the games. The coach seems to be trying to get as many of the freshmen rotated in as he can for game experience and to find his strongest players. The team had a chance to sweep ASU, but made mistakes that allowed ASU to come from behind and win late in the 2nd & 3rd games. It was the PAC 12 opener, so there's plenty of time yet. At 15-5, 1-2 record, IMHO, they should be ranked a little higher than 30th place.

We gave Vandy a good shot last weekend but got swept...lost two one-run games and now have a 6 game losing streak :/


On the bright side, my alma mater Central Arkansas is 6-0 in the Southland

Southern Cal?

After a long hiatus it's looking like Dan Hubbs might be getting Southern Cal back on track. They're sitting at 17-3 and ranked #9 in the latest polls. They've got some solid wins to support it.

They haven't seen the tournament since 2005. Hubbs is the 3rd coach there since Mike Gillespie left in 2006.

A storied program that needs to remain relevant.
