The Cavaliers have allowed two earned runs in 33 innings in winning their three CWS games for an 0.55 ERA. The CWS record for lowest ERA in a series, in a minimum four games, is 0.60 by California in 1957.

Gonna be hard to beat UVA with an ERA like that if their pitching stays true to form.

Where's all the VT fans? Shouldn't they be in here pulling for UVA? :laugh3: On a serious note, are there any Vandy fans on the board at all?

In Alabama with their thumbs up their butts. Or at least that's the word on the street.

You won't see any VT fans here. That is by far the largest bandwagon group in all of college sports. They made a run to the CWS in softball about a decade ago, it was the greatest sport on earth then. Now, their softball team barely gets any attendance. Same thing with soccer, their coach at the time paid a bunch of foreign players to come make a run at a NC, they made it to the final four, it again was the greatest sport on earth. Same as softball, you can't pay anyone to go sit through a VT soccer game. VT is a football school. I blame that on their previous AD and to an extent, Frank Beamer. The school and fans have made him out to be some sort of iconic figure.

OK who knows if either of these two teams have ever won a CWS, or better yet, ever made the finals...and no I don't feel like looking it up, figured somebody would just know this kind of trivia.

Neither Vanderbilt or Virginia have previously made it to the Championship game.

This is Vanderbilt's 2nd ever trip to Omaha (2011/2014) - In 2011 they went (2-2).
This is Virginia's 3rd ever trip to Omaha (2009/2011/2014) - In 2009 they went (1-2). In 2011 they went (2-2)

There's only been one ACC team to ever win the CWS and that was Wake Forest in 1955. The ACC's been well represented, but unlucky for sure.

Current ACC teams that have been to the CWS
(ACC formed in 1953)

Boston College (4) - 1953, 1960, 1961, 1967 (Joined ACC in 2005)

Clemson (12) - 1958, 1959, 1976, 1977, 1980, 1991, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2010

Duke (3) - 1952, 1953, 1961

Florida St (21) - 1957, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2008, 2010, 2012 (Joined ACC in 1991)

Georgia Tech (3) - 1994, 2002, 2006 (Joined ACC in 1979)

Miami, FL (23) - 1974, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008.
(National Titles in 1982, 1985, 1999, 2001. However they did not join the ACC until 2004)

North Carolina (10) - 1960, 1966, 1978, 1989, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013

N.C. State (2) - 1968, 2013

Syracuse (1) - 1961 (Joined ACC in 2013)

Virginia (3) - 2009, 2011, 2014

Wake Forest (2) - 1949, 1955 (1955 Title)

Notre Dame (2) - 1957, 2002 (Joined ACC in 2013)

Pittsburgh, Va Tech, and Maryland have never been to the CWS.

I think UNC made the final 4 straight years, 06-09, and still couldn't get the job done.

Two

North Carolina in Championship Games

2006 - Lost to Oregon St (W 4-3), (L 11-7), (L 3-2)
2007 - Lost to Oregon St (L 11-4), (L 9-3)

They are the last ACC team to make it to the Championship.

2008 was Fresno St over Georgia in 3
2009 was LSU over Texas in 3

Oh well, my team made it much further than I thought it would. I'll be back next season.

It's a W CWS Final for the double V. I'm backing Virginia to win it.

So you're a UT sports fan and not an overall sports fan? :tsk:

BTW: Not only is it double V, it's also double C.

I enjoy almost all sports, but I prefer not to comment on other teams. Especially, when I don't see the games. I'm too cheap to get cable/satellite. It's what I gave up when I quit working 14.5 years ago, I was 43. Few regrets living here beside Grand Lake.

Missed the double C part, how funny. It's VC vs VC, that can give some flashbacks :-)
