Is Stony Brook not ranked?

Not Top 25 no, but they will be in the final poll.

They got an automatic birth by means of winning their conference, and were the #4 seed in the Miami Regional (ie.. last).

Division II National Champions - West Chester Golden Rams

rp_primary_Baseball_national_title.jpg

CARY, N.C. – Ninth-ranked West Chester University shut out second-ranked Delta State, 9-0, to claim its first NCAA Division II college baseball national championship Saturday night behind the arm of sophomore Joe Gunkel (Hershey, Pa./Hershey).

West Chester (46-10) completed its perfect run through the NCAA Tournament with a five-hit shutout from Gunkel (10-1). The 6-6 right-hander went 2-0 in the College World Series and did not allow a run in 18 innings of work while only yielding six combined hits. He was named the tournament’s most outstanding player for his efforts in the series opener against Chico State and Saturday night in the finals against Delta State (49-18).

The Golden Rams went 4-0 in the Atlantic Regional and duplicated that performance in Cary, N.C. at the College World Series, knocking off Chico State, Southern New Hampshire, Catawba and Delta State, respectively. They end the 2012 season with a 12-game winning streak and tied the school record for most wins in a single season (46).

West Chester becomes the first team from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to win the national championship and just the third northern school to walk away with the title.

Division III National Champions - Marietta Express

crowe_mariettabaseballt1_05.jpg

APPLETON, Wis. — Marietta defeated Wheaton (Mass.) 7-2 to win its second conscutive national championship.

In winning its sixth NCAA championship — and the first back-to-back title since Rowan did it in 1978-79 — Marietta pulled off the feat following two weeks of gut-wrenching play.

After fighting through the loser’s bracket of the Mideast Regional to advance to the championship series, the Etta Express (48-8) had to basically repeat the same grueling task again at Fox Cities Stadium. During the two NCAA Tournaments, the Pioneers went a combined 11-2.

On Wednesday, top-ranked Marietta defeated St. Thomas 5-0 and finished the day with a 7-2 victory against Wheaton (Mass.) to finish 5-1 in the series. The Etta Express has now won championships in 1981, 1983, 1986, 2006, 2011 and 2012.

With the win, coach Brian Brewer also equals the number of championships won by legendary Marietta coach Don Schaly at three apiece.

Senior Brian Gasser tossed a gem against Wheaton to earn his first win in this year’s championship series. But it also allowed him to erase the memory of being the pitcher of record when the Etta Express lost to Chapman 15-4 in the first championship game in 2011.

Gasser, the 2011 National Pitcher of the Year, can now claim a championship game victory on his record.
