It's seriously could have been a dynasty for that Mariners team in the mid 90's, the M's ownership totally did everything to @#$^ that up ..... Even in 2001 when we won those 116 games I knew they weren't going to the World Series, because the Yankees were standing there in our way, and our offense just didn't have the fire power to compete .. Lou Piniella realized this, and he lobbied like crazy to get another bat before the deadline, NOPE! They did nothing, even Sports illustrated said the M's will regret that on the front page of the #@^! magazine... EVERYTHING this upper management does keeps the M's from getting to the series... It's just one @#^ up after another ... Were the Cleveland Browns of MLB ... One head scratcher after another...

Couldn't have said it better.

The 15 Worst Trades in Seattle Mariners History | Bleacher Report
bleacherreport.com/articles/343968-the-15-worst-trades-in-seattle-mariners-history
Feb 11, 2010 - 5. Billy Swift, Mike Jackson, and Dave Burba to San Francisco for Kevin Mitchell and Mike Remlinger; Dec. 11, 1991:

Ouch!

Thinking positively - Best draft pick in M's History?

1981 Round 2 pick 9 - Mark Langston

Why?

Mariners leveraged the assets from that pick to have a top of the rotation starter for 21 years (Langston, Johnson, Garcia).

Overall numbers (W-L-ERA-G-GS-GF-CG-SHO-SV-IP-H-R-ER-BB-SO-WHIP):

280-191-3.71-620-608-4-101-32-2-4132.1-3517-1882-1705-1828-4059-1.293
1x Cy Young
8x All Star
2x ERA leader
7x SO leader

Ok, back too your previously scheduled Mariners off-season.....

I just remember that was the first game I attended was my dad wanted to see him. With how little Seattle cared about or covered baseball neither my dad or I knew who Junior was at the time.

Didn't read the link but another crap trade was the Mike Hampton deal.

And of course it was on the list. I disagree with the Choo deal didn't look bad at the time. Choo was still one of the better prospects in the organization at the time got flipped for a dude who was a platoon 1B. Choo and Jones both got hosed in Seattle by Ichiro saying he was going to play center, then didn't, then played CF and switched back.

W/o looking it up, I believe we got Eric Anthony for Hampton. I think Hampton was a guy Lou didn't like if I remember right so that led to the trade.

Ok, back too your previously scheduled Mariners off-season.....

I would still have to go with Griffey, but get your point. I remember watching Langston. He was a stud. He and Mike Moore were suppose to be the great 1-2 punch for years to come but Moore never hit his mark...well not until he went to the A's of course.

I often take the same way of looking at who was the most influential Mariner and I always say....Ken Phelps.

1- His injury started the Alvin 'Mr. Mariner' Davis era.
2- Traded for Jay Buhner
3- Broke up the first potential perfect game in M's history when Holman was 1 out away and Phelps pinch hit and hit the first pitch for a homer with 2 outs in the 9th.

I thought of Griffey, but it just seems so obvious to go that route, especially since he was a #1 overall. Besides, there was such a drop in performance with Cameron out there that the last 4 years of the influence was a little underwhelming. Griffey is still one of my favorite Mariners.

If I took a shot for each of those poor decisions, I'd be making worse decisions myself.

There's nothing wrong being drunk and banging on JD's door in the middle of the night demanding him to sign starting pitching.

Yeah, he was the guy they got for him. Not sure about the relationship with Lou but it was another trade that kind of is like how the M's are now. They have a good offense and a horrible pitching staff, made little sense.

The hit rate vs miss rate this franchise has with trades in general is absolutely staggering
