Tiger is 42. And he has the 2nd highest swing speed on tour.

There is nobody anywhere near Tiger's age at the top of this list.
36 years old was the oldest that I had found.

To me, this is a big ..how & why.

How does a 42 year old golfer with 4 back surgeries swing that hard & why is he swinging that hard.
It just makes no sense. A what's even stranger is that not 1 golf talking head out there saying it's wrong.
Instead, they are boasting about it. What planet is this?

FYI, the first number is the average, 2nd the Attempts and 3rd is the high.
And yes, Tiger has the highest recorded swing speed on tour. Yea, it's a head scratchier.

It is surprising he's that high, but I think some of it is the equipment. Nike had the weakest technology out there, it's not shocking they finally gave in.

Maybe there is a conspiracy story buried in there somewhere, but it would be bigger if he was never among the leaders in distance.

Hgh. Extended time away. Id bet that If the pga announced that they had a test for hgh, that went back 3-5 yrs, he'd retire immediately. Or you can stick with the narrative... tiger is magical.

His last surgery was a multi-fusion that aligned his spine and locked the structure in place. He claims he pain free for the first time in years and with the pain gone, he's back to a much more free swing.

How many people will be seeking the same surgery if it works that well??

He would do well to ease up a bit and maybe hit more fairways, but then the youngsters that don't have to swing quite as hard would be out-driving him by 20-30 yards all the time and his ego wouldn't stand for that.

Agreed. It makes no sense to swing that hard if you are still hitting it shorter than most of your competitors.

His ego would definitely have a hard time dealing with that...no question.

But, already some of the older "young guns" like Rory, and Jason Day have been swinging hard also and starting to have injuries that have shut them down. Justin Thomas won't be far behind...incredible player, but he goes at the ball hard as well.

A swinger like Justin Rose might play til he's 60 on the PGAT.

I agree. I don't understand why Tiger doesn't dial it back a bit with the driver when he hits his irons like he does and his short game is usually impeccable. It's almost like he wants to get hurt again :noidea:

Tour players are taught early on...hit the ball as far as possible, and we'll straighten it out later.

I guess the guys that develop a short game and actually do straighten the driver out eventually play on tour....guys like Jim Furyk, and David Toms are becoming rare birds on tour.

One round of golf with President Trump and Tiger is great again.

Meanwhile Tiger's Ex (and avid Trump hater) Lindsay Vonn just crashed and burned at the Olympics.

And lets think about what happened on 18 last week.

Tiger has a chance to tie with a birdie, so he pulls out a iron off the tee?
He is swinging harder than any 40 year old in history ..to what? Leave the driver in the bag when the game is on the line?

He ends up with 180 and change to get home and leaves himself a low odds birdie putt.

Makes no sense at all.

I agree that was odd, knowing the pin was on a plateau he may not have wanted a spinning shot and end up down where Reed was...or maybe he just wanted to ensure hiiting his approach from the FW...idk, I hadn't given it much thought...the iron swing off the tee wasn't a brute effort imo.

You are swinging for the fences and yet you don't trust your driver because you can't keep the ball in play.

How does a guy like Tiger not see the correlation.

After multiple back procedures...he may never see the correlation, but I'm not expecting Rory, Thomas, or Day to be playing into their 40s well either. They will all be very rich so I guess they are willing to make the trade off.

Well regardless he appears to be getting back to his old form. His problem recently had been handling par 5s like he did in the past. Today he birdied all 4 of the par 5 holes. We will see how long this lasts - I will enjoy it while it is occurring.

This restart is a little different for Tiger...I think he still feels like he can win, but he knows it's a different tour now...the intimidation factor is gone and I think he knows that. I'm just watching the ride.

The announcing is making me hate Tiger all over again.

last week 'HE'S BACK!"

this week 'We all have to be patient as he gets used to his back fusion surgery."

....all based upon whether he makes the current putt he's lined up on.
