Actually, statistically speaking, there are exactly 15 teams that have a worse fielding percentage than AZ. Some people that understand 3rd grade level math might come to the conclusion that 15/30 = 1/2. In other words Arizona is the exact definition of an average defensive team.

The fact that we are debating whether they have the 15th "best" defense or the worst pretty much says it all. The team is unwatchable and has been since Greinke went on the DL.

Honestly, I'm just stunned at how AZ can be a .500 team on the road, and only have 17 wins at home entering August.

That just seems completely counterintuitive to me. I don't even know how to begin explaining that.

The Diamondbacks should trade for Chris Sale. His addition would probably have no impact on the standings for the team this year because they are so far away from a playoff spot but get him for the future. A Greinke and Sale top of the rotation would be amazing. I would give the White Sox a package of Lamb, Corbin, and other players like Owings, Tomas, and/or Ahmed. Lamb has like 17 errors this season, but with him having a fantastic year offensively and being under team control for years means his trade value will probably never be higher. Drury can take over at third base.

Go into next year with an outfield of Pollock, Peralta, and maybe two of Bourn/Brito/O'Brien/Herrmann/Someone Else. Then the infield is Goldschmidt at first, Segura at second, Someone New at short, and Drury at third. Castillo/Herrmann/Gosewich can catch. Then rebuild the bullpen. The rotation will be Greinke and Sale at the top and then probably sign a veteran to be the third starter to take pressure off the young guys. Bradley can be the 4th starter. Then Ray/Shipley/De La Rosa can battle it out for the fifth spot.

People might think I am nuts for wanting to give up Lamb but I have watched this offense dominate for years only to be terrible each year. Pitching is the most important aspect of baseball bar none. With great pitching, you always have a chance to win, and a Greinke/Sale 1-2 punch sounds pretty good to me.

I really think the need to look into replacing Pitching Coach Butcher. He hasn't done a thing to better the bullpen. He seems to have made it worse.
