Neither would make it in my scenario. If you went to this type of thing you'd see a lot more upsets abd you'd see a 16 over av1 within 5 years. Plus the regular season would be so much better. The people that don't love CBB point to the regular season meaning nothing and they're actually pretty correct
dont love college regular season then fuck them.....what makes the tourney great is watching cinderellas win or hell even keep it close for a chance at upset. watching two major also rans play another game does nothing to add to the product.

I don't want to see a 16 over a 1 seed, if it means knocking the worst 15 AQ's out of the field, and a team like Nevada or MTSU who's close enough to the cut line as is for an at large is the team that does it. Nor do I find any pleasure in a team like Iowa beating a team Baylor in the 1st round. All you're doing is taking away what the essence of the tournament is and filling it up with more undeserving teams who failed to capitalize on a season's worth of opportunities to make the tournament.

You'd still get Cinderella ( probably 12-14 chances instead of 24 ) but you get the cream of the crop for sure. And you'd actually probably see more upsets of highly ranked teams ( seeds 1-4 ) because they'd actually be guaranteed to play a really good team and not a 15-18 Big South 9 seed that got hot at the right time.

Teams like Nevada and MTSU would still get in. It'd be the teams on the 14/15/16 lines that would not.

Yeah I know, so the 12 seed AQ's would be designated to 16 seed lines, at least if I'm understanding your scenario correctly. And I hate that.

There is NOTHING Cinderella about teams like Syracuse, Cal, Iowa, UGA, Clemson etc making a run in the tournament. At that point they are doing nothing more than getting hot at the right time, much like the 9th seeded team in the Big South did(to use your scenario)

The playin games are meaningless to me, but that's just my two cents.

But for real, I wish people would leave March Madness alone. Nothing against you @rmilia1, but the NCAA tournament is the best four weeks of sports evva.

SU would have won it all this year.

I don't really even care for the First Four games. They interfere with my bracket-pickin' and they happen mid-week when I can't devote them any attention.

There's nothing like noon tomorrow every year.

I agree and it's fine the way it is. However I think this would make all tournament games more competitive and make the entire regular season more exciting because a February Vermont vs Stony Brook game would actually matter. Clearly this is just an idea but I really do think it'd end up being awesome. Arizona playing 15 seed Wilmington is a better game than playing UND and who wants to see 16 seed Vermont or Princeton?
