When I was posting at ESPN, I got caught up with arguing with Dubster as much as I could because he pissed me off so well. Needless to say, I had a bad reputation because I never added much to the boards other than bickering and the fact that back then, I didn't care.

Tox invited me to SportsHoopla and in my introduction post, Bossman made it clear he wasn't too sure about me joining SportsHoopla based on the crap I posted at ESPN. He was totally honest about his opinion of me but in the nicest way a human being could say it. He gave me the benefit of the doubt and straight up welcomed me here and hoped I would change my ways. He never treated me bad when he(and everyone else) could have ignored me or just chased me out. I was going through my first round of chemo so needless to say, with Bossman generously offered to listen if I ever needed to talk as I went through the nightmare. He reached out his hand to me when he only knew of me being an asshole on message boards. I didn't deserve it. 99.9% of people wouldn't have gave 2 shits and rightfully so. He did and as corny as it sounds, he helped change my outlook on life. I didn't reach out to him as often as I needed but knowing he was willing to listen was a blessing for me. I will always remember him and will always be thankful and appreciative of knowing Steve.

I have read some good stories in the other threads about Steve's death. Please, tell them again here and add other stories you want to tell.

I know I mentioned it in the other thread, but I always loved that he'd PM you if he thought he had in any way offended you in a discussion. I swear, sometimes I had no idea what conversation he was talking about. He just wanted to make sure we were okay, and would remind me that he considered me a friend, and didn't want to hurt that. He was just awesome.

It was a few years ago and I'm guessing it was on the ESPN board. But I always remember how proud and excited he was when he became a grand-father for the 1st time. If I remember correctly his grandchild and the parents didn't live in the Buffalo area (somewhere in the south?) but he couldn't wait to bring his grandchild to Sabres' games whenever they would visit.

When i completed the swing set in my back yard i told boss he could come visit, sit on my deck and shoot rogue neighborhood toddlers who decided tresspassing was a good idea

He didnt 100% rule out the offer

Rip bossman. I didnt know him as personally as alot of you did but i always hoped the best for him when he shared his health problems. Crappy to think we wont get to see his screenname pop up and share a story or laugh anymore. The time spent on here with him was worth it. Condolences to his family

I believe he has grandkids in Ohio. You are right, he adored those Grandkids. I wish my Grandpa was as cool as him!

My turning point from "random stranger" to "friend" was back on the ESPN boards when I had one particular Sabre fan who I liked to poke at. And once the person got me banned after I started calling the delicacy "Louisiana Hot Wings" (Thus creating Snork_McGigglepants alt), Steve PM'ed me to make sure I knew it wasn't him who reported me. He said that the stuff I was saying was pretty funny and even gave me a few hints on other things to say to twist the knife more because "that guy's a bit of a tool".

Then every few days he would PM me a link to Rick Jeanerrette yelling "GOAAAAAAAL!" with the note "Can't let you get away with everything you are saying. Take THAT".

It always cracked me up when Boss invited Minty over to his place to watch a Sabres game. The playful banter back and forth always gave a chuckle.

Mine involved some PMs with Bossmanpc after Rick Martin had passed away, and how we both met Rick. For those who don't know, Rick Martin was a partner in a local employment agency specializing in IT staffing needs. When I was still living in Buffalo I received a call from his company and agreed to meet with the person if he brought Rick Martin along. He did & I met Rick Martin.

Bossman & I reminisced about some local places we both knew about. Bossman then talked about how he met Rick Martin at a local gentlemen’s club. Bossman said he was very impressed about how down to earth Rick was.

I imagine Rick was thinking the same about Steve…

Those who make us smile the most in life are the ones that make us saddest when they pass away. Obvious from everyone's interactions with Steve aka Bossman was positive to say the least. His loved ones were truly blessed to have him in their lives, and we carry on with Bossman's memories in our minds, hearts, & souls. God bless this wonderful human being, we need more like him in this world. Very sad that he's gone.

There's probably over a hundred threads with Steve predicting "the team who scores the most goals will win." Sad thing is I couldn't find a casino or bookie who would take that bet. I'll miss you Boss.

A Bossman classic (from the swamp where it originated) was the schtick about Leafs fans coming to Buffalo so they could watch actual NHL hockey. I think that was about 8 years ago when he first penned it and it's still good for a chuckle even after all these years.

Not a story...just a musing really.

I hope that as a mod in the sky Bossman is granted full lightning powers. If so Brett Hull better watch his ass, and rightfully so.
