Chris Kunitz put the puck in the net while on the same line with Crosby. I believe that is the name of the game.
Which he rarely was his last couple years in the Burgh. Pittsburgh mostly used him as a 4th liner. His last season in Pittsburgh was pretty forgettable except for a few key goals in the playoffs. IMO he'd want more money than he's worth as a 4th liner and rare sub in the top 6.

I'm not a big fan of reclamation projects, but given the choice between Cullen and Kunitz, I'll take Cullen for the one year.

Paul Kariya and Scott Niedermayer's jerseys will be retired by the Ducks.

Pretty big accomplishment for Kariya to have his number retired by two franchises.

I'm assuming Kariya's is already up in the rafters in Colorado.

That should take care of those pesky Karlsson-to-TB rumours and set him on a one-way path to the Western Conference.

Or maybe they take him without an extension and see if they want to let him go afterone year or move somebody else out. Who knows.

To Edmonton for Draisaitl, Yamamoto, and Klefbom.

/Too little?

I'd probably take it. I wouldn't be surprised if Edmonton is on Karlsson's no trade list though.

Fine by me too. I don't expect the Leafs to really compete for the Cup this season but in 2 or 3 years it's more realistic and not having to deal with a TB with EK is preferable (at least until another 3 of their prospects become superstars).

Kucherov was taking by Tampa with the 58th selection in the 2011 entry draft. Tyler Wotherspoon was taken by Calgary with the 57th selection in the same draft.

/That stings.

What kind of compensation could be offered to a third team for taking on a contract? Have to imagine Tampa is giving up a haul to Ottawa to get Karlsson, what is left as incentive for say the Devils to add Callahan's contract?

You guys plucked Gaudreau out of the 4th round that year. I'd say you made up for it.

/Gaudreau and Kucherov on the same team tho...

TB has a million good prospects, a decent (if aging and expiring) Anton Stralman, a forward corps made up entirely of guys in their 20s they can spare one or two of, and Stevie Y will comp the other GM a week at a resort in Florida next winter.

Oooooo... that would be something to watch.

But yeah, you can play this game almost any year with multiple great picks. The pick right before Evgeny Kuznetsov was selected 26th in 2010 was Quinton Howden, who I didn't know until literally just now and who played only 97 NHL games and is now a middling winger in the KHL. He has also never been in my kitchen.

Live shot of the GM's office in Edmonton if this were to happen...

Kariya I get, but Neidermayer was only with the team for 5 years at the end of his career. Seems like a stretch.
