Yeah I am not sure and I doubt any team would be dumb enough to bring him back after what he did.
To add..probation ends in July 2018 and he wasn't deported. He agreed to return to Russia prior to deportation charges.
Anyway I still hope NO team brings him back if he is allowed back in the US.

LOL...He can play in the Canada only games.

Seriously he shouldn't be allowed back in the US, but the NHL should be smart and tell him NO.

I seem to recall Bob Probert couldn't cross the border for a time during his career (after he was busted with coke at the Windsor border)
Jiri Bubla was also caught smuggling 4kg of heroin, but that might have been after his playing career. The family embarrassment made Jiri Jr change his name to Slegr.

Instead of firing him (like he probably deserved) after last season, Leipold decided to wait and let Fletcher become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Ok that's the first time I heard that about Slegr and my mind's blown. Wow.

I have been looking at Cap Friendly and feel a bit better about our situation now. Especially compared to places like Washington, Boston and Chicago. Oof. Dallas and Minnesota are pretty ugly too.

Gone: JMFJ, Vanek, Chorney (who?), And Calvert unless he signs a home friendly deal.
Maybe go: Korpisalo (a few moderately decent backups will hit the market, and Merzlikins might be ready), Dubinsky (if it can be done without retaining his whole salary) and Jenner (as a deal sweetener in order to get rid of Dubi) if he can't come to a reasonable deal. Milano.
Give deals: Letestu, Cole, Panarin. Murray
Problem: Hartnell's buyout is 3m next year. ( Ouch. 1.5 this year). Evens out almost with Boll's off the books and Tyutin going down by half a mil. But still.

Fire out of the cannon: Brad Shaw and/or Larsen. Get a coach who actually knows what a power play is. Too much talent to be that dismal.
Hot seat: Torts. He has been very calm and measured in his approach. But his team did lose a 2-0 series lead and came out like wounded rabbits in a must win game 4 at home. Sutter and Vignault are available. I would love another head coach on the bench to put the pressure on him. Give Torts full marks for avoiding his usual year 3 flameout.

Need to bring in another scoring touch for the top six to fill the role that Vanek should have. Center depth might be okay with Dubois, Wenny, Sedlak and Letestu. Foligno and Jenner (if he stays) can fill in.

And we need to hope that Texier, Abramaov and Gavrikov are everything they are touted to be. And that they come here. Gavrikov and Texier play in Europe.

Great opportunity for him to practice with NHL players (and Oilers) for a couple weeks.

Simmonds is a guy I've always liked, congrats to him on his nomination.
